Celebrating 40 years of Todd Rundgren

Celebrate 40 Years of Todd!
Get your name in Rolling Stone in 2007

TODData is at it again, and this time
we're going for the big one.
In 1992, fans helped sponsor a b/w classified Rolling Stone ad to celebrate 20 Years of Something/Anything?
Last time, we ran a full-color quarter page ad to celebrate 30 Years of TODD (the album).

Now, since NAZZ hit the streets in 1967, it's time to for 40 Years of Todd. TODData is facilitating a full page ad in
Rolling Stone.
It's going to take a lot more fans to make this happen.
So, for a limited time, a donation of just $5 is all it takes to get your name in a 2007 Rolling Stone Magazine tribute ad.
The exact issue and run date of the ad is yet to be determined.
A prize schedule for larger donations will be added.
News on past events and current progress is in the works.

For more, email info@TODData.com

Contribute $5 before March 31, 2007 to reserve your space.
The minimum donation amount is subject to change.

Cleartone Strings
Testimonial
I have tried many different strings over the decades of playing and performing (live and in the studio) but have never found something that could bend so well and stay in tune over multiple shows, until i found Cleartone. I never really paid much attention to the brand of strings i used until i discovered these. The way they hold their tone and tuning, even while bending WAY outside the normal realm, continues to amaze me. The durability - whether in a smokey bar, basement studio, outdoors, or a dusty theatre - is astounding! They also seem to last three times as long as other brands i have used! The residue from my hands has destroyed strings in the past but this has not been a problem with Cleartone, and that is something that amazes me.
I have also found that it takes A LOT to break them (and i have tried)!
They also carry great tone from low to high - and that's quite incredible.

THANK YOU for making such a high-quality product and teaching me that string brand can make a HUGE difference.

non-stop left leg, and a bit of fun but nothing spectacular.
he certainly had a good right hand, great voice, and decent song choice...
i enjoyed it but saw much more potential in him than he gave us...how 'bout more original music?

The Weavils got PRESS for the Cold Shot gig!)
Posted June 6, 2007
Valley Jams: The Weavils

The Post-Crescent
Band name: The Weavils
Hometown: Madison/Fox Valley
Lineup: Jeff Gauss, guitar/vocals; Dean Tassone, drums/vocals; John Luc Finucan, keyboards/vocals;
Mike Gephart, bass/vocals.
First a little background: Somebody buy these guys a beer, because the Weavils are celebrating their 15th anniversary this year. The band formed on Jan. 29, 1992 and has been performing all over the region ever since.
The members come from diverse backgrounds. The band still includes founding members Gauss and Tassone. In addition to performing in many bands alongside musicians such as Clyde Stubblefield, Gauss also has been the musical director for theatrical productions. Tassone is a seven-year alumnus of the Americanos Drum & Bugle Corps. “New” members Finucan and Gephart joined in 1994 and ’96, respectively. Finucan’s playing style ranges from jazz and classical to pop and blues. Gephart has played with many well-known musicians in the region, including Bobby Evans.
As far as the Weavils’ live shows, “Each handcrafted set keeps the audience engaged, entertained and dancing while still satisfying the band’s need to challenge and push themselves to grow musically,” according to the group’s bio. “The Weavils will not only play the song you want to hear with the same passion as if it were their own, but also the songs you forgot you loved and songs you'll enjoy hearing for the first time.”
You will like our band if you also like: The Grateful Dead, the Radiators, Frank Zappa, the Beatles, Phish.

Why our band is better than your band: “We are not better than your band. We are different than your band,” Gauss said.

Decide for yourself: Check out the Weavils where it all began, Friday at the Cold Shot in Appleton. That was the scene of the band’s first bar gig in 1992 (it was called the Thirsty Whale back then). Get more info about the band, including MP3s and a tour schedule, at www.weavils.com.

no man, especially this madman, should have such overwhelmingly HUGE power.

DICKtator he wants to be without any interference
approval or oversight
The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive, signed on May 9, 2007 declares that in the event of a “catastrophic event”, George W. Bush can become what is best described as "a dictator":
"The President shall lead the activities of the Federal Government for ensuring constitutional government."
This directive, completely unnoticed by the media, and given no scrutiny by Congress, literally gives the White House unprecedented dictatorial power over the government and the country, bypassing the US Congress and obliterating the separation of powers. The directive also placed the Secretary of Homeland Security in charge of domestic “security”.
the media will ignore this so it is up to

Album of the Moment

although NOT my favorite supertramp record,
here's a touchstone from my youth i've been revisiting
6th grade parochial bus ride to adler planetarium in chicago...i had taped it off the radio the night before
and carried a small cassette player onboard to listen and i still love it today!
the 2002 remaster is amazingly clear and the stereo placement is amazing
!killer separation!

although i did get to see them live it was after the brilliant ROGER HODGSON had left.
he wrote and fronts many of the best songs on this record...of course rick davies' tunes are up to par as well.

due to the lack of guitars this is an album i should so dislike, however i now realize that's exactly what brought me to this sound.
when guitar does appear it is AMAZINGLY big and present,
even the "quiet" 12 string is treated with an almost ping-pong approach to the stereo field,
creating an enormous vibe of eternal greatness.

there's a feeling of wholeness, complete and snug, that one gets from this monumental stacking of fab tunes
that build one into a wonder of joyousness!

this is close to a perfect album and the closer, Child of Vision, is one of my faves of all time.
it's ridiculous that it is not on their new collection, Retrospectacle

Spiderman Review

here's MY take on the spiderman trilogy
1. i REALLY liked the first one and felt that director sam raimi, who's work i dug from Evil Dead-
one of the greatest trilogies of all time!, brought back the comic book look and feel that had been missing since
probably the first batman (with Keaton)
"With great power comes great responsibility" was a theme that felt real and was threaded well throughout the film.
Green Goblin, the ever-impressive Willem Dafoe, was quite incredible as always...this guy can do it ALL!
in this film he was evil and menacing yet intelligent.
this first film had a hunger, truth, urgency, and quality that wasn't over-Hollywood-ized.
the DVD seemed to hold up for one more viewing...maybe two
...that was all soon to change!

2. we KNEW the sequel was comin' BEFORE the first ever came out...
the plot dives into drivel as a thin, feelingless love story takes over.
Doc Oc sucks - bad acting, terrible CG effects, NO SOUL!
action sequences become spewing laptop crap, dialogue becomes trite bits of tripe, and the poetry is shit.
Alfred Molina vs. Willem Dafoe...C'MON NOW! Willem was CHRIST for his sake!

so i REALLY wanted RETRIBUTION from #3...

but i was to be let down again!

3. THIS IS THE HOLLYWOOD CRAP I HATE and  ITS POPULARITY HAS RAN IT INTO ITS GRAVE!
Soap Opera Bullshit!
sclock, bad dialogue, slow pacing, terrible acting, NO SUSPENSE or FEAR.
no character development, propulsion, or even depth
spiderman cries, mary jane cries, peter parker cries, his idiot friend Harry (POS) cries,
topher graceless (ALWAYS a TOTAL pussy) cries!...the world cries
i wanted to cry, "gimme my money and two-hours-plus back!"
~ fortunately i had nothing better to do ~
what a wet kleenex of senseless emotional drivel and time-wasting fluff!
her singing is bad enough...but i could deal with that as a way to propel an interesting story line (if there was one).
i swear (FUCK) there was an hour of NOTHING! NOTHING!
repitition-flashbacks begin IN THE CREDITS and appear throughout almost continuously!
there's a flashback to a scene that JUST HAPPENED and i HATE THAT CRAP
(and seem to see more of it everywhere these days as if it's a theatre trick)
near the end the villian is called "Sandman" by a reporter as if they were referrring to him as that throughout the flick
YET IT IS THE FIRST TIME HE IS NAMED!
it's almost become a video game (which, in retrospect, i saw coming during the debut)...
even the jazz club stoops to MJ about to sing "Fever"...does it get ANY more generic?!
the answer is NO

i WELCOMED seeing the dark side of Spidey but it was not used to hardly ANY effect!
it seemed a passing phase that was hardly even explored and very easily disgarded...
well it turns out that Evil Peter/Dark Spidey (Venom, a name never mentioned in this waste of time)
is not only NOT SCARY but is a fukkin DANCER! TERRIBLE, AWFUL, and COMPLETELY STOOOOOOPID!

and then there's "the forgiveness"...who is he? Christ! pppppplease don't start drawing THOSE comparisons!

this puts it right,
"I love Sam Raimi, I really do. I wanted to love this film, I really did. But I cannot deny how many wrong decisions this team made from a technical perspective, a story perspective, and a creative perspective in how they tried to illustrate this story arc.
I hope that people see through the fanfare- and can be honest with themselves as comic fans and as Spidey fans- that while Peter may have forgiven Ben's murderer for what he did...
we should NOT forgive what these filmmakers have done to these wonderful characters."

2 outta 10 and that's being nice due to MJ's soft grace and beauty,
excellent use of Bruce Campbell as a Clouseau-style matradi,
and toby's...
well, ummmmmmmmmmmmm, fond memories of him in the first movie.

even the previews (Pirate's 3? The Bourne Ultimatum? Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix? Boooo!) kinda stunk as
HOLLYWOOD IS NOW OFFICIALLY OUT OF IDEAS!
Summer of 7 could be the death of hollywood...and perhaps rightfully so...

all this being said, it was nice to see a film in the old Wisconsin Theatre...at least that's the feel to the back room at

another KGP rehearsal/tutorial (#3)
we added River City Blues and Deal and worked on
Rockin' in the Free World, I Shot the Sheriff, Tomorrow Never Knows,
and others...while tweaking few we've "learned fully"
THIS IS GONNA BE GREAT!

then off to the new place, Anchor Bay, right on the Wisco River and
one of the few places one can spot a sunset around here

to catch
"Madison's Premier Wisco rock band",
Copper Still Foundry
(bullshit...i spent 13 years there and NEVER heard of these guys!)
they were ok...TOUGH place to mix due its acoustic (lack of) properties but it's REALLY SAD when the 'backup singer' can be heard and even understood while the "front man" sounds like a sleeping bag is atop his mic!
tis no wonder they were ignored and there was such little applause/interest.
the solo tune that the frontman opened the midnight set with was a complete waste of time as
NOBODY could understand a thing
good to see former The Green Situation drummer, Chris Wasmund,  in the fold as i used to book his stuff back at
Ken's Bar and Grill (RIP)...
HIGHLIGHT was an original sung (and understood) by lead guitarist with a very cool riff
called Reflection
regardless, 'tis GREAT to see a new venue AND to see that live music can still bring 'em in
(the place was pretty full at midnight)
THANKS to owner Dennis Moon and fellow former-Madisonian and bartender Nelly
for settin' this up...here's to the Lizardz being their next band!
(...and preferrably out-of-doors)

i was taught to NEVER cross the zero line as it creates harmonic distortion
...then closed the night at The Bar in Rapids (yeah THAT'S an original name!)
to check out Surrender Dorothy, a Rapids mainstay...with cool lights from Hellfire
MUCH better than the last time i caught 'em

Bo is a GREAT frontman!

...and childhood friend Jamie Cumberland on lead axe...good stuff!
i caught: "they just don't write em like that anymore",
"every rose has it's thorn" (slow dance puker!),
"ain't talkin' 'bout love"...BEST by far!

HALLE BERRY,

it is tough to get enough of her as she SHINES in this film due to being a natural beauty...now where's a shot of her in that brown dress? ummmmmmmmmmmm THIS will do!

(Halle shows 'dem puppies! from 2001's swordfish)
this reaked of "i know who dunnit" as it started BUT, for once, i was wrong and pleasantly surprised
by the ending 'twist' as i didnt see it coming. of course, they filmed three different endings
(ala 2005's hide and seek, a better movie), each with a different killer,
which will make for a great dvd.

this film will forever be known as the first motion picture to be filmed at "ground zero",

...with a few tweaks this could be an official release!

Also finishing up KGP(working title) rehearsals from 4/7/7 and

Cinnamon Girl and Rockin' in the Free World (Neil Young),
Green Light Girl (Doyle Bramhill II),
Interstate Love Song (STP),
Beatles, Police, U2, Yardbirds,
and Hendrix!...
to name more than a few

of course by the time this hits 'the world' we may be completely different...
just attempting to find some common ground to start on

if nothing else this will be a great vessel for recording originals and maybe even writing a few together...
Mike's If That's What it Takes is ROCKIN POP at its finest
and i've spent many hours mixing this "single"...man, it's HOT!
i sure hope we do a "real" take of this down the road after we have "locked in" a bit.

i also wanna incorporate some of the ideas i had for "'79" (working title) like
Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, DEVO, Alice Cooper, the Cars, and
Cheap Trick (Mike sings the helloutta Robin's fine work!)

i miss you big time brother!

Painkiller, alcohol caused Echo Tap & Grill chef's death
THU., NOV 2, 2006 - 10:09 AM
Painkiller, alcohol caused Echo Tap & Grill chef's death
GEORGE HESSELBERG 608-252-6140
ghesselberg@madison.com
Tyler Kremin, the popular head chef at the Echo Tap & Grill who was found dead in his van outside the bar in April, died from the combined effects of a powerful painkiller and alcohol, a long-delayed coroner's report concluded.
Kremin, 35, was a longtime cook and soup expert at the Echo, located on West Main and Bedford streets in Madison.
Friends and fellow workers found his body in his van April 10 after he did not show up to work his lunch shift. The van, where he was known to occasionally sleep, was parked in the bar's lot because of street construction near his apartment.
Officials did not consider the death suspicious, but it was a puzzle because there were no visible injuries. The Dane County coroner's office delayed release of toxicology reports for several months as it awaited a final autopsy report.
The toxicology tests from the American Institute of Toxicology in Indianapolis were returned April 28,
within three weeks of the death.
They showed positive results for oxycodone - a narcotic found in prescription drugs such as OxyContin and Percocet - and a trace of ethanol. The final report from the autopsy, conducted April 11, was not received until Aug. 28.
Deputy Coroner Colleen Little ruled the death accidental, caused by the "combined effects of oxycodone and ethanol."
One Percocet pill was found in a container in Kremin's pocket.
Kremin, a native of Waukesha, had been employed at the Echo for about 10 years and was popular with customers for his soups, created with great care and imagination.
According to the coroner's office investigation, Kremin suffered from high blood pressure and was intoxicated when he last seen April 9. He also took pain pills "recreationally," the report said, quoting friends as saying he began taking
Percocet, a pain reliever, after breaking his wrists in a fall a few years ago.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration notes that combining forms of oxycodone and alcohol
can be dangerous and lead to death.

axeman/lizard MILO post Copacabana as presented by AHS
Assumption High School
i took my Mom, great time (although a bit slow in spots) that proves once and for all
that one should NEVER write a rock opera/musical based on ONE novelty song
(you readin' this Barry?)
nevertheless, twas a GREAT cast and EXCELLENT BAND-especially the following:
Jada Straub - percussion VIP as she held the whole thang together. THIS GIRL RULES!

talented drummer Austin Steinke and INCREDIBLE CopaVIP Jada Straub

pit band leader Molly Thomas deserves HUGE props for holding the whole thang together
(and dealing with all the 'white space' between scenes by vamping on musical bits...
i don't know how she does it but she is AMAZING!)

vocal coach Jan Weisenbeck sure had her hands full and REALLY brought all the stage music and voices together

CAST highlights included:
Kelly Smith as Gladys (great gams and fantastic presence),
David Hamm (as Rico, GREATLY improved from last year's version of Grease),
and Tyler Frost (as El Bravo)

the cast aglow!

Mirrors
by Donald Roeser and Bruce Abbott
©1979 B. O'Cult Songs, Inc.
A mirror is a negative space with a frame
And a place for your face it reveals
What the rest of us see
It conceals
What you’d like it to be

Pretty girls can’t look away
Pretty girls can’t look away
Pretty girls can’t look away
Pretty girls can’t look away

Pretty girls have a love affair
With their eyes and their shining hair
Fantasize that the world adores
Tantalize like a cover girl

Mirrors are the basis of beauty give rise
To self-love or self-pity the prize
If a woman is pretty she tries
Like a superstar Hollywood girl

Pretty girls can’t look away
Pretty girls can’t look away
Pretty girls can’t look away
Pretty girls can’t look away

Pretty girls can’t look away Vanity’s a deadly sin
Pretty girls can’t look away It’s what the flesh is packaged in
Pretty girls can’t look away Vanity’s a deadly sin
Pretty girls can’t look away It’s what the flesh is packaged in
