their dog.

Cleartone Strings
Testimonial
I have tried many different strings over the decades of playing and
performing (live and in the studio) but have never found something that
could bend so well and stay in tune over multiple shows, until i found
Cleartone. I never really paid much attention to the brand of strings i
used until i discovered these. The way they hold their tone and tuning,
even while bending WAY outside the normal realm, continues to amaze me.
The durability - whether in a smokey bar, basement studio, outdoors, or
a dusty theatre - is astounding! They also seem to last three times as
long as other brands i have used! The residue from my hands has destroyed
strings in the past but this has not been a problem with Cleartone, and
that is something that amazes me.
I have also found that it takes A LOT to break them (and i have tried)!
They also carry great tone from low to high - and that's quite incredible.
THANK YOU for making such a high-quality product and teaching me that
string brand can make a HUGE difference.

The
Mist opening night review
i LOVE stephen king's work
so i went opening night, like i try to do for all of his...
AWESOME to find only 2 others in the room (i dig those 'private'shows)
but
what i REALLY enjoyed about this film is a trick of King's that gets
used often,
a movie about HUMANITY dressed up as a horror flick.
this one comes down to human beings and what they/we would do when
faced with certain predicaments...
scenes with the 'God nut', stockboy, biker, and the closer exemplify
this quite well.
Why DO we interact the way we do?
Why DO we hurt each other?
Why do we mistrust one-another?
Philosophical questions like these are often addressed in SK's books/films/series
and this one seems to take that to a new level!

Bonus Points for fucking swearing in this motherfuckin' piece as Hollywood
seems SCARED TO SWEAR these damn days,

(unless it's a mini-series) as the true and tested results in 90 mins

to rush through essentially the same
further media consolidation
into the hands of fewer and fewer giant
corporations, which was overturned
by public pressure in 2003.
A bipartisan bill has already been introduced
in Congress,
The Media Ownership Act of 2007 (S.2332),
to stop this rash and harmful action.
At a public hearing (with the bare minimum
advance legal notice) in
Seattle on Nov. 9, presumptively to hear
citizen input, Martin turned
a deaf ear to a thousand protesting voices,
and announced the next
business day he was going to plow ahead
with his destructive plan.
FCC Commissioners Adelstein and Copps were
appalled at Martin's
obliviousness to the public interest, aiming
to push through his
gutting of current rules by December 11,
just a couple weeks off.
S.2332 would start by requiring a full and
fair 90 days for the
public to comment on any such proposed rule
changes. It would also
require protections for localism and diversity
of ownership,
including female and minorities.

The
faces of Ed Gein, from the eyes of a child
The Stevens Point Journal once carried a quote that said, "Edward Gein
had two faces. One he showed to the neighbors.
The other he showed only to the dead."I think he had many more faces
than that.
The face I saw as a kid was simply the face of a seemingly normal old
man.
Being a handyman of sorts, Gein kept the farm vehicles in running order,
and at times even worked a bit on cars and trucks for other people. When
in need of a used part for repairs, if it could not be found in Plainfield,
he looked further down the road, sometimes coming to Wisconsin Rapids and
to my father's Standard Oil gas station,
Whetstone's Highway 73 Garage, just three miles east of Nekoosa in
Saratoga.
We had a fence that bordered the yard, running up to meet at a gate
in the northeast corner where Dad's shop was. There was also a drinking
fountain at that corner, providing the perfect place for us children to
hang out when someone came who might be willing to buy us a candy bar and
chat for a bit. Such was the case with Ed Gein.
Although I have no firsthand experience in how he interacted with adults,
he seemed to like children fine.
Much like one recalls the Kennedy assassinations, the Challenger explosion
and the tragedies of Sept. 11, 2001, I can distinctly recall 50 years ago
on Nov. 17 when my father came into the house and somberly told my mother
about the strange happenings of the day before.
Even then, with most of the details still forthcoming,
I remember the effort made to keep us children from knowing what was
going on.
It would not be until the next day at school, when children whose parents
were not as careful started talking about the happenings down in Plainfield.
I put two and two together. Even then, I could not quite reconcile the
murder
and other acts with this man who seemed so quiet and unremarkable.
As days passed, and more information regarding the life of the reclusive
Gein came to light -- although the newspaper at our house stayed conspicuously
missing -- all the jokes started. No one enjoyed telling them more than
I did. I would come home with the latest one, happy to share it with the
rest of the family. Both of my parents tried not to laugh and keep a stern
countenance, but sometimes failed, which only fueled the need I had to
find new jokes the next day at school. It was almost as if making the jokes
could dispel the evil of the monster and his deeds. I tried not to think
of him as someone I knew,
and most certainly never shared with my friends the fact that I had
actually met the man.
Through the years, I have been asked from where I derived my fascination
with the macabre -- my interest in authors such as Stephen King and Dean
Koontz, who by the way is also a relative -- and I have always said I did
not know. In retrospect, I think perhaps I do know. They say that events
from your childhood do more to shape who we are than we can ever imagine.

Kurt P. Hertel
Kurt P. Hertel, 39, of 1911
First St. N., Wisconsin Rapids, died early Thursday morning,
Nov. 8, 2007, at his home
of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at
St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. Martin
Baur will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Kurt was born July 18, 1968, in Arlington
Heights, Ill., to Wayne and Betty Hertel.
He married Deborah Wirtz on Aug. 15, 1992.
He was a dock worker at McCain Foods Inc.
and also was a drum teacher
at Pete Gilson's Music.
He was a drummer in the bands PECH and The Fire, as well as many other bands. He loved camping, boating, music, children, the outdoors, campfires and being with his many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah; two
children, Maegen and Jesse; his parents, Wayne and Betty Hertel of Mosinee;
one brother, Jim (Sue) Hertel of Wisconsin Rapids; one sister,
Wendy Hertel, one of the most beautiful
women in Wisconsin Rapids, and her daughter, Natosha;
and in-laws, Tom and Carrol Rowe of Stevens
Point, and Butch and Jean Wirtz of Wisconsin Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his maternal
and paternal grandparents.
Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and
Jennings Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today,
and at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

records to federal authorities without court orders 720 times since 2005!
For years the Bush administration has been illegally spying on Americans'
phone calls and emails with the willing assistance of big telecom companies
like Verizon and AT&T. Lawsuits moving forward against these companies
may be the only way we ever find out how far the Bush administration went
in breaking the law

The above prototype is a flying surveillance
device still under development
The Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle,
UPI and other national and international media have carried major articles
about the government's creation of small flying surveillance devices that
look somewhat like dragonflies. As the article below discusses, there
have been credible independent reports about sightings at the recent September
15 Mass March on Washington of 100,000 people. According to the article,
the government has been working through many agencies to perfect this spy
technology. As also mentioned below, the Partnership for Civil Justice
has recently filed a series of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests
with different government agencies regarding use and deployment against
the public.
New reports in the past week have revealed
how extensive the illegal spying operations conducted by the Bush administration
on the people of this country have been -- and it started within five weeks
of Bush taking office. Quest telecommunications CEO for instance, revealed
that the administration had demanded the phone records of US citizens starting
six months before the September 11 attack. The mass violations of civil
rights and civil liberties carried out by this administration has outraged
people across the United States. The movement for impeachment is demanding
that Bush and Cheney be held accountable for their gross violations of
the constitution. Impeachment is an imperative.
Vanessa Alarcon, who was working backstage
at the September 15 Lafayette Park rally, and who is quoted in the Washington
Post article, reported that the strange-looking devices were hovering above
the backstage area where speakers were waiting to take the stage and organizers
were holding meetings in preparation for the mass march and die-in. Others
reported that they saw the devices elsewhere at the demonstration.
The government's efforts to surveille
the growing movement against the war in the United States are neither new
nor are they effective in preventing the antiwar movement from gaining
momentum everywhere. The government fined organizers $40,000 for putting
up antiwar posters, suppressed and arrested the speakers at a pre-march
press conference, spent large amounts of money to mobilize right-wing pro-Bush
supporters, and yet all of these efforts failed to stop an exceptionally
powerful action from taking place on Sept. 15 in support of impeachment
and to end the war now. The protest culminated in a die-in of thousands
led by Iraq war veterans and 200 arrested by riot police.
While there are those who would like
to dismiss the implications of such spying, the fact is that if the government
is intentionally conducting secret photographic or audio surveillance targeting
people because they are engaged in public protest and First Amendment-protected
activities, this would be a significant constitutional rights violation.
It is important to keep in perspective
this kind of government action. The government's efforts at surveillance
of the progressive movement are also intended to chill public participation
in political action; they seek to intimidate their opponents. The purpose
of surveillance against the anti-war movement is not to "protect" the country.
Rather it is evidence that the Bush administration fears the mobilization
of the people of the United States who have seen through the lies and blatantly
illegal conduct of the government itself. In fact, it is unmistakable evidence
that shows that the Bush White House fears the power of the people.

messed with our chi.
same with the bikers. was it too nice? was it too cold?
where were they?
well they can't ALL be fabulous shows-it didn't suck but we've done
much better.
the highlight (and biggest applause) was our little 11-year-old friend
Alex, who gets CONSTANTLY better each time he sits in
we did "Wipeout", drum solo, and "Alex B. Goode"...
