Sun. Feb. 22
Noon - 8pm
Dean Tassone on Drums for a set with Rev. Raven!
NEWS FROM GEPPY!!!!!!!
I haven't played a "first gig" in over 25 years. This isn't my first gig by any means. But it's the "new me's" first gig. I've been practicing in my "low end man cave", but it'll be the first gig I try with the TBI. Its not DIG. My main plan is still to play with Brother Dean & Iggy Rae. But Jamfunk's bassist, "Train" is out for bit on medical leave. I feel I'm ready and its my duty to help a brother bassist out. Just like Keith Farnum and Pete Olig helped me out. If I make it through this Thursday like I hope I will, l'll be able to finally scratch that "giggin itch" I've been suffering from for nearly a year. Come on out if you want or can! It'll be funkay! Tell me somethin good!

Mike “Geppy” Gephart is a strong, witty, generous, guy who loves music, travelling, and being with his family and friends. He has played bass guitar for most of his life and has been in bands such as Free Beer No Cover, The Weavils, Twisted Configuration, The Great Garbonzos, Boney Fingers, Father Mac, and The Phry, just to name a few. And when someone in the valley needs a bass player for a gig, Gep steps in. He has played with Michael Boyle, Iggy Rae, Bobby Evans, and countless others. Even greater than his love for music is his love for his family. He is a loving father to two young girls and a supportive husband to his wife, D. Geppy has a charm about him that makes him pretty difficult not to like, and it’s been said that there aren’t many people out there that he doesn’t like back!
On March 12, 2014, Geppy was involved in a serious car accident on his way home from work. Thanks to the efforts of the first responders, he survived this horrible accident. He did, however, sustain many broken and fractured bones, as well as a very significant and severe head injury. He spent more than a week in ICU, and his recovery is expected to be a long one. He has many weeks, months, and possibly even years of rehab and therapy ahead of him.
Geppy’s wife, D, has displayed an amazing amount of strength and courage during the past few weeks. Staying on top of his continued roller coaster of recovery, driving back and forth between home and the hospital, taking care of a 3 year old and a 4 month old without her partner and dealing with paperwork from every angle. If this list wasn’t long enough, D has also gone back to work, as she has now suddenly become her family’s sole bread winner. All of that would seem like enough to bring anybody to their knees. In addition to all of this is the significance of being married to a guy that is so extremely loved by others. Through the countless bands he has been in over the years, Geppy has acquired thousands of friends and fans. And they ALL want updates. D has been strong under pressure and has been nothing but generous, opening up her private life to, in some cases, strangers. She does this because she understands. Geppy is just really easy to love, and, as she stated recently, “people love Geppy.” People have been coming out of the woodwork with offers to help, and here is your chance! We have started this website so that the people who so desperately and generously want to help Geppy and his family will have a way to do just that.
still early in the game, here, folks. Nobody is sure just how long this
recovery is going to take or how expensive it is going to end up being.
What we do know is that the medical bills have the potential to be HIGH
even after insurance pays its part. We also know that it’s going to be
a long time before Geppy can get back to work and as we all know, life
doesn’t slow down for anybody, not even Gep. There are still mortgage payments,
daycare costs, and general bills that are going to need to be paid, and
the Gephart Family’s income has been drastically reduced. I have seen the
outpouring of love, prayers, and offers to help all over the internet.
It’s time to pitch in. It’s time to do some good for somebody who has done
good for pretty much everybody who knows him. Thank
you in advance for your donation.
It was a good weekend with Mike Gephart. He's focused on his multiple hours of therapy, and determined to get home to his girls sooner rather than later. I'm continually amazed at his willpower and general positivity. He notices when I'm fading, and tries to help. He always calls his nurses and Drs by name, and thanks them for helping him. Quite an amazing feat since the staff turns over every 12 hours. He has moments of clarity, and moments of hilarity. He kept calling his ukulele an eclair. Doesn't everyone bring their ukulele to the hospital with them?
Great news! Mike Gephart has been doing great with his therapy.
All the transfers went through and we are officially in our new room on the therapy wing. Home away from home for the foreseeable future. New normal for Team Gephart.
Weekend update on Mike Gephart as I said before, this is up and down. Gep is now having trouble sleeping, which impacts.... everything. His pain levels are kicking up, a sour reminder he was in a major accident. His moments of clarity depend on so many factors. He is very excited talking about music (salsa music, mostly. He had joined salsa manzana, a band from laurence uuniversity) and of course missing the girls desperately.
And we again end the week on a tentatively positive note with Mike Gephart
The hospital liaison has contacted me that IF Gep keeps up the positive improvements, he should qualify for transfer to the PT wing next week. This is WONDERFUL news, it's an intensive program that will (hopefully) get him home to us sooner. Plus it's right here in the Fox Valley. We're still talking months and years of hard work for recovery, but compared with how things were looking 2 weeks ago, heck, even 1 week ago,
I'm a very happy girl.
Music has been a part of Mike Gephart s recovery. Thus far his play list has included the following. Derek and the Domino's - Got to Get Better in a Little While. Jerry Garcia Band - Dear Prudence and Phish - Mango Song. (these were all suggested by Brother Dean.) Today Qtip requested I play him Santana - Evil Ways. Care to share your top one (1) get well geppy song? Think hard, you only get 1. No take backs or re-dos
I apologize for updates on Mike Gephart being sparse lately. Things are up and down, up and down. One moment he's not responding. Twenty minutes later he's awake, telling the nurse that she needs to take a few hours off because she's working too hard. Needless to say, the nurses have told me he's already a floor favorite. Classic Gep, charming people even when he's unconscious 2/3 of the time. On my end - I'm back at work at work on a new schedule 4imprint who has been wonderfully supportive. I'm able to spend a few hours with Gep, and I'm still with the girls as they need. The mountain of paperwork is rather ridiculous, but I know that *I* have the easy job.
Please keep us in your thoughts.

Dennis Gephart status
Spent today with mike Mike Gephart. He did ok on responding to stimulus. He shook his head and knows who I am. Tried for a feeding tube again today with no luck. At this rate his jelly belly will be gone in no time.
I'm home with the girls. Jane Kramer called asking to put Quinn on speakerphone. Qtip hollered HI DADDY I LOVE YOU and he whispered back hi quinny I LOVE you too. Mike Gephart isn't having much luck with eating and they can't get a food tube in, so they'll put a port in his belly tomorrow.
Mike Gephart is breathing on his own now, they pulled out the ventilator. He's talking and asking questions. Asked for info on the accident. Asked about his injuries, when I told him his leg was broken he said. "Are you serious?" Asked for a glass of water. Already tried to rip off the mittens and get out of bed. We will move out of the ICU tomorrow. Deep breath. We made it through.
Its a long road but he's taking some huge leaps.
Spoke with the neurosurgeon a moment ago, Mike Gephart has finally shown some small responses. He flinches from hard pinches on both arms, and his eyes are just starting to track, sort of. The MRI has been canceled for today, which is a good thing. His blood levels are low, so they may consider a transfusion if it continues to drop
Mike Gephart is holding steady today, he's getting a little too agitated and now has to wear mittens so he doesn't try to pull his tubes out. The nurses commented that he is really strong. He isn't responding to voice commands yet. He's fighting, which is good to see, but right now is the time to rest and heal.
Some good news today from Mike Gephart he is wiggling toes and fingers on command. Getting the ventilator out is the next step. The pulmonary Dr (lungs) was going to start a very slow program. The nurse explained how he was fighting to sit up and yank at tubes the Dr got a bit more aggressive. They let him breathe on his own for a moment, and the Dr got a big smile
great news to end the day.
Mike Gephart is responding to specific questions with nods and head shakes. Q: do you you know you are in the hospital? Yes. Q: do you know you were in a serious accident? Yes.
Q: Do pigs fly? No. (Checking for accurate responses)
Q: Do you want to see your wife? Emphatic yes.
I run in, and quickly tell him the girls are at home and fine. I love him. He squeezes my hand at each answer to confirm he understands. And when Gep holds my hand, he always runs his thumb over the back of my hand. He was doing that the WHOLE TIME. I explain his hands are fine, he will play bass again. He just has to wear mittens and is strapped down because he's so strong, he's hulking out and the nurses can't keep him from hurting himself. He nods and squeezes my hand. Happy happy happy day
by Len Nelson
Not that we all need a reason to celebrate on St. Patrick's Day, but here's one more.
There's some real optimism for Fox Vally musician Mike Gephart and his family. You may recall that Geppy was critically injured in a car wreck last week but there are encouraging signs. This from Mike's wife, December:
Mike "is wiggling toes and fingers on command. Getting the ventilator out is the next step. The pulmonary Dr (lungs) was going to start a very slow program. The nurse explained how he was fighting to sit up and yank at tubes the Dr got a bit more aggressive. They let him breathe on his own for a moment, and the Dr got a big smile."
Please keep Mike, December and the kids in your thoughts. All the positive vibes from the music community and fans is apparently working!
Bassist Geppy was involved in a car accident so please send positive vibes his way...

Weavils - Tomorrow Never Knows
A Message from our AWESOME Videographer/Archivist Dave
"I have revised the Weavils video for Tomorrow Never
Knows. I spoke with
Adam and he encouraged me to make it even more psychedelic! I added some
effects here, there and everywhere, mostly over the live footage, but
not too many, to jazz it up a bit and tie it all together. Blasting
light rays are cool, some inversion to negative at the mention of the
word DREAM, conversion to sepia for transition to sepia photos,
newsprint halftone dot pattern for newspaper, etc. I've also lengthened
the transitions of the photos so they blend over live footage a little
longer. It's off the hook now, thanks Adam!
Back story: the video is a sort of stream of consciousness
whatever imagery comes to mind, like the song. It's also a simple story
with Beatles references - Weavils party, Weavils jam, Weavils get famous
and hang with famous people, Kennedy is in there because he was
prominent at the time the Beatles became famous in America, the Indian
guy is Mahesh Yogi, the Beatles spiritual advisor, the queen is hanging
with Jeff like when the Beatles played for the Queen and said rattle
your jewlery. It's also a Pythonesque nod. The Elvis like picture of Gep
kind of explodes now, it means "blow your mind". The newspaper is a take
on Beatles bigger than Jesus scandal, and subconsciously equates Lennon
with Jesus (gasp!). Weavils albums are then burned like Beatles albums
were, with Gauss appearing through the flames like a demon. A few
Weavils friends pop in for support then, and once again Weavils party
and Weavils jam. Life goes on. I added a logo at the very end - the
Weavils art logo, band website and band members, just like Coppola would

Jeff's begun work on another production,
One of Jeff's productions,
It's hard to believe that three years have gone by since I had Bake Sale on the brain. I have been drooling for months, so it's time to dig in and put some in the belly.
We start out with a smooth mellow dish in "Intro," but don't let it fool you, because you are about to have your palate assaulted by "Drive." BS4 alumni Meantooth Grin, bring you "Intro/Drive" and it's that combination of sweet and salty, that I know you'll like.
Next we continue the slide into "Turpentine/Wade in the Water." Clovis Mann returns with another combo taste as greasy breakfast slides into Sunday morning brunch.
Michael Murphy & the Mob bring some comfort food to the table with Why "Get a Chevrolet." Once you try it, you will be glad to have them back and realize that an oldie can be a goodie.
Next it is time to wash some of this down. Here to help us do just that is Bake Sale first - timer Aaron Williams And The Hoodoo with "Drinking Blues." 2:57 PM is close enough to Happy Hour…I need a drink.
You better put that drink down or you will end up like Cadillac Pete and The Heat. They bring us "Rolling Pin." That woman will hit you upside your chin.
New to the Bake Sale is The Charles Walker Band with a little something for later on, to help burn off some of these tasty treats. "Boogie Woogie" will do the trick.
The Nitecaps stop in to add a little dipping sauce to whatever you want to spice up. "King Swing" will definitely do that.
Welcome to the dining room.
Returning from BS4 is Deep Water Reunion. They will get you past that, this is so good but I'm starting to get full point. Once you hear "I Came Here to Play," you know that you are in for the long haul and happy about it.
We are proud to have the talented pat mAcdonald make an appearance to serve us up some thump and stomp on "My Troubled Mind." It leaves us with more room in the stomach. Bring it on!
Another new dish, brought to us by Hounds Tooth, reminds us that whatever new thing we are eating, it is because of the dishes served before. "Blues is Truth" does just that.
Perry Weber & The Deville's have made an appearance and brought us a classic Midwest casserole. All the basics are there but nobody is talking about it because they are too busy eating up "Got My Room."
First timers, The Delta Jets dropped off a plate of greasy appetizers, with "My Baby Blues." I know you are supposed to eat them at the beginning but sometimes you go back to them during the middle of dinner, because they are so good.
The fresh dishes keep coming with The Playground of Sound's "Leavin' Suzanna." You may be thinking about having that second drink about now, because you have just been inspired to keep moving on with your journey.
That inspiration led you to fall in love with what you are now sampling. South End Blues Band brings us yet another new dish with "Love Tsunami."
Sometimes when you try something we haven't had before, you can't help but laugh when you taste it. "Crossdresser's Blues" by Queenie & the Blue Cats makes that happen.
Making his first appearance serving us since BS2 in 2001 is Jimmy Vogeli, with "I Know What I Like." Your foot starts to tap and you're thinking it's almost time for desert because you really don't deserve this much good stuff.
BS4 veterans the Jerry Henry Band return with "Sugar Momma." They will inspire you to clean off your plate, because desert is about to be served.
Desert is a three-piece course with classics on the menu. These deserts differ a little from the rest of the meal but they are familiar.
This newcomer inspires us to burn off some classic calories with "Walkin Shoes." Welcome Doug Kroening to the Bake Sale.
"Crucify" by Sue Dabaco and Wise Fools reminds me of mixing the cake with frosting, ice cream, chocolate syrup and your favorite candy all together in a bowl. It's all familiar and tastes good.
Aaron Williams And The Hoodoo will "Hypnotize" you, with their song of the same name. That is what you are going to need after taking this all in. Hey maybe that type of diet will work for me? Loosen your belt and hit play again. I dare you!

Weavils' "Rain" in the Studio
Big THANKS to Dave Schrader
We had an EXCELLENT session with Marc Golde at Rock Garden Studios in Appleton this past Saturday cutting The Beatles' "Rain" for a CD entitled "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Mike" which will be available at Mike Boyle's Benefit at Waverly Beach in Menasha on Friday 2/22/8.
We did three takes and went the the first as it had more energy and just felt right.
John got to play a REAL B-3 though a Leslie and then a REAL grand piano while
Dean played on an AMAZINGLY INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL drum kit!
Geppy was the harmony KING as he nailed ALL backing vocals, putting up a Rundgre-esque wall of vocals and holding an amazing closing note for 16 bars to FLOOR all in the room!
Jeff nailed guitar and vocal lines right off the bat.
Rough mixes are in hand and we are excited about the finished product.
Unfortunately The Weavils will NOT be on the bill for the benefit. Instead this will include the 'Big Three' in Appleton,
Vic Ferrari, Boogie and the Yoyos, and Boxkar.
Due to some personal constrictions, The
Weavils will do VERY FEW SHOWS this year so catch what you can.
This does NOT mean the band is splitting but just taking it easy this year...
THANKS for your continued interest, patience, and support.

PRESS RELEASE-FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Weavils Live
CD Release Party ~
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21 ~ MULLIGAN'S
212 W. Grand Ave.
WIS. RAPIDS, WI
No Cover Charge (FREE)
***WITH PSYCHEDELIC LIGHT SHOW from the PURPLE PENQUIN
and GREAT SOUND from FISH AUDIO PRODUCTIONS***
(please note that penQuin is spelt that way, with a "q" and not a "g"-thanks)
This Friday, October 21, 2005, Wisconsin's favorite psychedelic blues
band returns to Wisconsin Rapids for a CD Release Party at Rapids' only
Irish Pub, Mulligan's (212 W. Grand Ave.).
The Weavils, which have been together since 1992, will be celebrating
release of their sixth CD, a double disc entitled Live at Cornstock 2003.
Recorded live at their favorite festival in Sugar Bush, WI - Cornstock -
by GIZZMO and mixed and mastered with the talents and super-technology of
Madison's Jim Newhouser at Studio Earth, this new CD, their sixth release,
represents the band at their best. The band has been a headlining
performer at the festival for ten years and always feels relaxed and
confident there so they decided to multi-track the 2003 show, with rave
results. Sonically superior to any of their prior releases, this is their
best CD and exemplifies the power and energy of their live show.
"We always feel so great at Cornstock, due to their overwhelming
generosity and constant support of the band, that we decided to do a
professional recording that summer", said frontman and guitarist Jeff
Gauss, a Wisconsin Rapids native that recently moved back to town. Gauss
is also the lead guitarist for one of Rapids' favorite bands, The Lizardz.
The Weavils are so excited about the release of their new CD that they
bringing in the talents of the Purple Penquin and Fish Audio Productions.
Purple Penquin brings a sixties-style lightshow, complete with overhead
projections and water-and-oil gels, has worked with the band for years and
is psyched for his Wisconsin Rapids debut. "Jeff has always told me what
fun a Rapids crowd can be so i am ready for a good time", adds The
Penquin. Fish Audio Productions' owner Dean Fisher is new to tha Rapids
area and looking forward to the exposure his awesome sound system and
over 23 years of experience in Southcentral Wisconsin will provide to
listeners. "Fish" says, "I am excited about working with The Weavils again
and hoping to reach some new listeners and musicians in the Wisconsin
Rapids/Stevens Point area." Fisher worked with the band on their first
studio recordings on their debut CD, "Make It Happen" in Janesville, WI in
Mulligan's owner, Mike "Bingo" Peterson, also offered up some comments.
welcome back The Weavils with open arms as their last show here in spring
was a huge success. Their frontman Jeff is my newest bartender and that
adds so much to the excitement that we have decided to throw a free show
(no cover charge)."
Drummer Dean Tassone, an Appleton native, stated, "We always enjoy coming
to Wisconsin Rapids as it is our home in Central Wisconsin and the crowds
are always into our grooves." Their amazing keyboardist, John Finucan from
the Janesville area and the band's initial contact with Fisher, adds,
"Rapids has been great to us so we decided this show would be an
appropriate venue to do a CD Release Party." Rounding out the band on its
high-energy bottom end is Oshkosh native Mike Gephart. "We have found that
the Rapids' crowds like to dance," adds Gephart, "so we plan to keep 'em
moving with a diverse mix of dancable grooves and rhythms."
The Weavils' show at Mulligan's starts at 10pm and is free (no cover charge).

ANOTHER FRONT-PAGER for GGGAT JAMBASE!
With a warm summer just around the corner, the bus is up and running again! Its next stop will be the 2005 Grateful Garcia Gathering being held July 29th - August 1st. The 3G's will celebrate and pay tribute to the life, art, and music of legendary guitarist Jerry Garcia on what would be his 63rd birthday. The gathering will once again take place at the picturesque NCN-North Campground located in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. The campground features 60-plus acres of brilliant surroundings with tall trees that shade your camp site. For your fishing, swimming, and water sports pleasures we have a five-acre natural spring fed lake with sandy beaches, modern bathroom facilities with showers, and other luxurious accommodations.
Campers will be able to have campfires at each individual campsite and firewood is available at the campground! There will be plenty of awesome vendors on-site for you to check out, a kind and friendly atmosphere, and a stellar musical lineup for all to enjoy! In addition, there is going to be a memorabilia "Jerry Garcia Shrine" near the main stage. All attendees are encouraged to bring pictures, candles, ticket stubs, tie-dyes, old posters with Jerry's signature, any and all related items related to Jerry Garcia, or the Grateful Dead! You can place it at the shrine for all to enjoy!
Festival attendees will be able to enjoy
the sounds of 21 local and regional bands who were influenced or inspired
by The Grateful such as Terrapin Flyer (headliner for Sunday night), Del
Mar, Waterband (two nights), Fat Maw Rooney, Boney Fingers, Hooch, Minglewood,
Sunset Elixir, Cosmic Railroad, The Green Situation, The Northern Pines Band, T.U.G.G., Bar Tab Band, UnderBelly Baghdad Scuba Review, Groovulous Glove, Electric Medicine, and more!
These bands will all be performing their own original tunes, plus a few covers of The Grateful Dead. All this, in tribute and honoring of Jerry Garcia, which will also mark the 10th Anniversary of his untimely passing. Singer/Songwriter Drew Scott, who has frequently opened for Merl Saunders, will emcee the event and perform in between set-ups and take-downs of the performers. In addition, there will be a very special appearance by Frank "Jerry" Chavez as host for this exciting weekend of camping, music, friendships, harmony and love! The 3G's is thrilled to have "Jerry", as he will bring the spirit of Jerry Garcia to life right in front of your very eyes!
The real thrill of the Grateful Garcia Gathering is the return of Melvin Seals & JGB for TWO NIGHTS! The 3G's just wouldn't be complete without a musical cohort and true friend of Jerry's to be part of these wonderful festivities. Melvin Seals, longtime friend, vocalist and organist of JGB and The Jerry Garcia Band from 1977-1995, will headline the first two nights of the gathering, July 29-30. Also, we are very pleased to have Chicago's own Grateful Dead maestros, Terrapin Flyer headlining on July 31. Terrapin Flyer has performed with musical icons such as former Grateful Dead keyboardist Vince Welnick, Jerry Garcia Band organist Melvin Seals, Grateful Dead Hour host/song-writer/singer David Gans, Grammy award winning blues harpist Sugar Blue, and many others. Terrapin Flyer is composed of members from Chicago's finest jam bands, most notably three members of Chicago's premier bluegrass band Cornmeal, Kris Nowak on guitar/vocals, Dave Burlingame banjo/vocals & JP Nowak on drums/vocals. The vision of Terrapin Flyer is to keep the spirit of Grateful Dead music alive by bringing the music to a new level with every performance. Festival attendees can expect a few surprises, as Terrapin Flyer jams well into what would be Jerry Garcia's 63rd birthday after midnight on August 1, 2005. This marathon show will put the exclamation point on a spectacular weekend of pure fun and harmony, all paying tribute to our Captain Tripps, Jerry Garcia!
Early Bird Special Weekend Passes for the Grateful Garcia Gathering are on sale are for $55 now through the end of May, $60 in June, and $65 until July 28th. Tickets will also be available at the gate. We are also proud to announce that this year a portion of the ticket sales and merchandise will be donated to Camp Gray.
For complete ticket information and more details, go online to the Grateful Garcia Gathering web site: http://www.gratefulgarciagathering.com and while you're over there, listen to a couple of MP3s from last years show on the 3G's web site!
