..."lunatic fringe, i know you're out there"...a sign of things to come
in '03. this one's pretty decent for an audience but the second disc is
noticably louder. |

highlights-especially....
JG = W/ JESSIE GRESS - ELECTRIC GUITAR
hot show and yes, he plays LIA a second time as the first was "unfinished
business"...great fun..the set gets a little standard on this 2nd leg but
this is another great sounding show from this tour. tr really plays wilder
and wilder guitar leads as the tour goes on, especially when pushed to
new heights by jesse. many thanks to randy h for this gem! |

you can hear them figure out i wanna hold..as well as the inclusion of

well. not much yap here-this is good-they were still working out the kinks,
but by champion, pa-the list would be set. |

A WALK DOWN ABBEY ROAD -CHAMPION, PA SEVEN SPRINGS
RESORT 2 CDS |

REVOLUTION. DAY TRIPPER. TICKET TO RIDE. I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND. HEY JUDE.
BIRTHDAY. GOLDEN SLUMBERS/CARRY THAT WEIGHT. THE END.
Note: this fine offering from the second tour only excludes
a great version of OME. sound is strong and the performance is excellent.
Vocs (esp background) in the show are strong. todds goofball comments add
the levity. he and ann w make a great pair with the banter. Clearly its
the tr and aw show-ann can simply sing her or anyone else's ass off. David
Pack also rocks and sounds great on the Paul tunes.Todd sings most of the
beatles set but while my guitar gently weeps is incredible and full of
great TR leads. **OPEN MY EYES is included at the end of
disc two from a different show and source** |
PRIVATE PARTY with ME ON GUITAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

party-
JG = W/ JEFF 'WEAVIL' GAUSS - ACOUSTIC GUITAR very intimate affair
on july 4 of 2001... talks loosely but aims to please-the keyboard is not
satisfactory for the purposes then tr turns to the electric guitar...and
I GET TO PERFORM WITH HIM! if you were there you definitely want this!

EVERYBODY'S GOT SOMETHING TO HIDE EXCEPT FOR ME AND MY MONKEY. REVOLUTION.
DAY TRIPPER. TICKET TO RIDE. I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND. HEY JUDE. BIRTHDAY.
GOLDEN SLUMBERS->CARRY THAT WEIGHT->THE END.
Note: a very nice-sounding free show from the toddlin' town
itself...and a very special day for me. a bit of crowd noise that is negligible.
todd was quite animated, as were several of us in the front row, as the
sun sunk behind chicago loop's tallest buildings in surreal fashion that
the beatles themselves helped create. jules from ringoland comes through
with one near and dear to my heart...eternal thanks.
I WAS THERE! |

EVERYBODY'S GOT SOMETHING TO HIDE EXCEPT FOR ME AND MY MONKEY. REVOLUTION.
DAY TRIPPER. TICKET TO RIDE. I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND. HEY JUDE. BIRTHDAY.
GOLDEN SLUMBERS/CARRY THAT WEIGHT. THE END.
Note: this is simply THE best one out there. this was recorded
by great equipment from a fan who does this stuff for a living...not
a board but as good of an audience job as can be done in an outdoor show
- superb - the recording is so good that it shows the troupe's harmonies
are wavering and a bit sloppy in places but considering they are copying
the fab four in the studio on many songs which they never played live-performance
is on par with the others... a little better than usual but somewhat ragged
and towards the end of the us line. Don't miss this one...thanks paTRick

the best of three days on the east coast during the ill-titled (by fans)
"tax tour" that captures some great solo todd. thanks again to tst. |
MY MASTER PRO RECORDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THING. TICKET TO RIDE.BEFORE SHE WAS GONE. SAY YEAH. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE
ANY DIFFERENCE. THE ONE SURE THING. ACROSS THE UNIVERSE. ALL THE RIGHT
REASONS. ONE WORLD.
Note: this is a stunning recording of the 1st short jaunt of
'01 and it pleases big time. i was the promoter of this monumental ken's
(RIP) show.kaz talks much to the crowd, has a new gtr that strings are
slipping on , his voice is a bit worn and he is alone (no doug)-he doesnt
seem to know the words to one world (his debut of this song) but who cares...it
was a very fun little show where kaz was testing out the waters for his
solo jaunt-recording is flawless (studio earth remote recordings-madison,
wi) and is unedited...except for the aborted opener with broken string.super
find from mr g who has habit of getting some good stuff out there-thanks-jeff..this
one is hot....(you're welcome tony!) |

?EPT FOR ME AND MY MONKEY. REVOLUTION. DAY TRIPPER. TICKET TO RIDE. I WANNA
HOLD YOUR HAND. HEY JUDE. BIRTHDAY. GOLDEN SLUMBERS->CARRY THAT WEIGHT->THE
END.
Note: yet another fantastic recording near the last stop of
the tour. sound is clear and the band was inspired as they were shutting
this thing down. the sound here is super and there's very little to zero
yap...of course, as the japanese fans are always polite and very quiet
during and in between songs. very clean audie for sure. |

Note: this is a very good recording from the internet with special
guest doug kennedy on guitar on some tunes(*). the reverb is a bit heavy
and slightly annoying while telling tales. |

INSPIRATION. IM LOOKING THROUGH YOU. THIS MUST BE LOVE. ONE WORLD. ACROSS

Note: this is an absolutely perfect recording through the board
w/ permission. kaz dazzles with versions of alone, inspiration, cliche
and one world-remember kaz did sing double lead w/ todd on inspiration.
Top flight recording here-kaz w/ doug kennedy on some tunes. |

| 6/16/02 |
A WALK DOWN ABBEY ROAD 1.5 HONOLULU, HAWAII BLAISDELL
ARENA 2 CDS |
AUDIENCE SOURCE |
70:47/73:58 |
Track List: CD ONE: A HARD DAY'S NIGHT. DAY TRIPPER.
RAIN. OPEN MY EYES. HELLO IT'S ME. HELP. GO ALL THE WAY. ALL BY MYSELF.
TAXMAN. BAD TIME. CLOSER TO HOME. FOR NO ONE. SAILING. RIDE LIKE THE WIND.
EYE IN THE SKY. AND I LOVE HER. CD TWO: SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE. ELEANOR
RIGBY. WHITE ROOM. BACK IN THE USSR. NORWEGIAN WOOD. IF I FELL. I'VE JUST
SEEN A FACE. NO REPLY. HERE THERE AND EVERYWHERE. YOU'VE GOT TO HIDE YOUR
LOVE AWAY. HERE COMES THE SUN. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. WE CAN WORK
IT OUT. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. EIGHT DAYS A WEEK. TICKET TO RIDE.
I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND. BIRTHDAY. REVOLUTION. GOLDEN SLUMBERS->CARRY
THAT WEIGHT->THE END.
Note: here's a very interesting piece of history as eric carmen
was to replace todd ("as john") on the shows todd could not make (mostly
due to an "exclusivity contract" used by many promoters). this show features
both of them on the island getting ready for the tour...eric learned how
much time he would be off the stage throughout the evening and, apparently,
decided it would not be worth his time. instead, the amazing godfrey townsend
merely stepped up to the plate at those shows to fill todd's role, even
on while my guitar gently weeps. there are a few glitches here and
there and disc one is indexed at 2 while disc two is a single index...but,
overall, a pretty decent capture of a very special evening as there were
only two of these collaborations...ever. band is tr, eric carmen, mark
farner, christopher cross, alan parsons, jack bruce, godfrey townshend,
steve murphy, and john beck. |

Note: here's a fab sounding example of this years offering-band
is tr, mark farner, christopher cross, alan parsons, jack bruce, godfrey
townshend, steve murphy, john beck. great sound here and the show is good-hell
you couldnt ask for better songs to play-nice mixture of the better stuff
from last year and new stuff-todd sings ive just seen a face ..the format
is like the japanese tour but instead the solo works are mixed among the
beatles tunes and stand up well-todd says a bit about his pal the ox before
the band play MY GENERATION-w/ todd really wailing vocally! |
from H&O&R tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TR/H&O - HERSHEY, PA STAR PAVILLION |
MD SOURCE |
75:13 |
| Track List: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. HAMMER IN MY
HEART. CLICHE'. HIT ME LIKE A TRAIN. IM LOOKING AT YOU BUT IM TALKING TO
MYSELF. BUFFALO GRASS. PARALLEL LINES. HELLO ITS ME. LOVE IS THE ANSWER.
ROCK LOVE.
(WITH H&O) WAIT FOR ME. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?. RICH GIRL. I SAW
THE LIGHT. KISS ON MY LIST. HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME.
Note: a killer recording of the tr tunes at this opening concert
of the tour. its cool to compare this to indy (last show of tour) and hear
the differences. the dat sound really comes alive (nice and heavy bass
and kick again!) when the band comes out on train. some very small talk
and mic crackling are present early but the sound is great. the h
and o tunes have a little more crowd noise behind them. as for the performance,
it was opening night..so the bugs were being worked out but it is
quite good overall...particularly of interest is the inclusion of hammer,
todd tells the audience after a fairly warm reception (after parallel lines)
"thanks for indulging me with my most obscure material...let's move onto
some familiar ground" ...maybe to a H&O crowd! he hilariously comments
on the five pound bar of chocoalte he received when entering hershey and
states, "i do have a big bag of this for you" prior to hello, it's me!
rock love is the best comparison to indy ..it is almost pedestrian-very
medium tempo..you can tell the band was trying to get used to the chord
changes and pace. the flubs are there but not too many.
TR's elecTRic guitar is out of tune for the entire show (and no
adjustments/re-tuning???? Todd!!!!!!), especially evident on LAYBITTM,
Buffalo Grass, and the combo/encore set (although he pretty much makes
it work with bends at the end of TRain and Rock Love), and thus is not
that loud...bummer but that is the essence of live music. all in all, this
was quite good for an opening show. levels vary a bit as band members onstage
increase. |

IT'S ME. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. ROCK LOVE.
(REMAINING ENOCRE TUNES WITH H&O): WAIT FOR ME. CAN WE STILL BE
FRIENDS?. RICH GIRL. I SAW THE LIGHT. KISS ON MY LIST. HOT FUN IN THE SUMMER
TIME.
Note: great document from delaware. the sound of course is carried
by t-bone- very bass heavy. this is the complete tr tunes. you can hear
some talk-but its only in spots. odd that bang was w/ acoustic gtr, instead
of cliche'..gtr not loud for tr on solos on his set..t bone carries the
sound on his big fender..parallel lines performance is magical ...tr mentions
the nazz before hello its me- mentions that this started it all off - i
guess he's enbracing the white philly soul trip here -cool - beatles to
this-just another facet-next hell strap on a gtr-thats why we love him..rock
love is also superior--todd does a preacher act a la love my life at the
end of HIM. halls mic on the dueling encores is much louder than todd-it
seems the best dueling takes place on H and O tunes-daryl just sounds harmonically
not as fascile with cwsbf and istl - probably b/c of the passing chords.
the most inventive todd gets is with (don't laugh) kiss on my list..yes
there are claps and stuff here but you can still thoroughly enjoy this
one..sly to close is killer and, once again, wait for me is incredible!
thick harmonies had to be caught before he changed 'hats' again. |

Track List: CD ONE: (TR) INTRO/LOVE OF THE COMMON
MAN. CLICHE'. HIT ME LIKE A TRAIN. I'M LOOKING AT YOU BUT I'M TALKING TO
MYSELF. BUFFALO GRASS. PARALLEL LINES. HELLO IT'S ME. LOVE IS THE ANSWER.
ROCK LOVE. (H+O) ADULT EDUCATION. OUT OF TOUCH. SAY IT ISN'T SO. DO IT
FOR LOVE.
CD TWO: SHE'S GONE. COLOR OF LOVE. ONE ON ONE. SARA SMILE. I CAN'T
GO FOR THAT. MANEATER. (H+O+R) RICH GIRL. I SAW THE LIGHT. KISS ON MY LIST.
HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME.
Note: almost complete show that is from the last date of the
tour- loud lick drum that drills a hole in your chest-the booming low fender
end of t bones bass, the very high level of daryls mic-which is left wide
open to catch all his high low vol vocs... all of that being said, this
is real nice-the bass drum has that sound but doenst really distract-as
far as the show----often there is too little bottom end but not here....todd
set was inspired but dogged by road weary..it showed on LotCM but from
cliche onward it was a different story..cliche was superb, train was real
hot-great gtr playing at the end..superb looking at you-esp the adlib vocs
at the end...buffalo grass which was greeted with indifference in dc was
a decided crowd pleaser here...strange...todd went nuts on rock love- great
performance.... MISSING -everytime you go away, wait for me, and cwsbf---------------------------------else

Note: "hello, jazz fans!" JG = W/ JESSE GRESS - ACOUSTIC GUITARtodd
greets us...fab here from atour that had tr and jesse playing exclusively
at these venues-and the audience is SOOOO polite during songs that you
cannot even hear them! here is an early show from this small club tour
in japan which is very similiar to the channel surfing tour of fall 98
we had back here. the shows were 2 a night, very short but very impromptu-i
wish i was there. the piano version of HIM does have a major train wreck
but thats the most damage of the night- most of the piano tunes are performed
better than the surfing tour (prob trs piano low point-see those shows)-its
definitely better than those days...todd sounds tired but happy to be in
japan for what sounds to be a very intimate crowd- he sings well and has
a number of tunes to toss off. if performance is what you want fukuoka
is probably a better performance but this recording is very nice as well-
you need them both-for a tour like this-the sets are remarkably different
(no real new tunes but enough variety to make us all happy) the binus interview
comes from 802 which has done a bunch of todd stuff going all the way back
to his first japanese tour in 76. this one contains some odd quotes such
as " jesse hasnt really done a tour like this with me before-just odd dates.."
huh? and his reason for liking to come to japan..todd describes his latest
work as "mystical electronic music" -probably referring to afterlife...the
real highlight is a spine chilling performance with jesse on dream..it
is slightly marred in one palce by what sounds to be tape speed for a split
second but really doesn't marr it much..really nice. |

JG = W/ JESSE GRESS - ACOUSTIC GUITAR
...this is a japanese boot cd that sounds very good and has a happy
and good performance. once again, the audience is SOOOO polite during songs
that you cannot even hear them! most notable is the jazzy remake of BTS
from tiki/half twisted (which we all know peaked in pgh 7/1/99) but what
makes this so cool is that todd and jesse both are playing gtrs..jesse
cuts way loose on the solo and it is really nice-what makes this different
from channel is the absence of electric gtrs-all acoustic and real warm
and fun-again this is one to get-i know it's short but that was the idea. |

HAMMER IN MY HEART. CLICHE'. SONG OF THE VIKING. COMPASSION. TOO FAR GONE.

I'VE JUST SEEN A FACE.
CD TWO: I SAW THE LIGHT(MP3). INFLUENZA(MP3). CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?(MP3)
I WANT YOU(MP3). ONE WORLD. THE WHEEL. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.
Note: this is an all-timer for todd's vocal performance. he
gets right into this great solo show without much yapping and makes very
few mistakes. this is full of stellar vocals that are creatively
'fresh' as he adds new life to familiar songs. the list and pacing
were all in synch at this show...new chi flowing here! new inprov. lines
take the place of familiar vocal lines. compassion is as good as its ever
been. tie you down totally glitters! this is sweet - no yap to speak of
at all. he teases open my eyes (an audience request) prior to the encores.
bits of political banter and 'dating tips' from todd before CWSBF and i
want you. great quotes: todd says he should run for senator of hawaii.
"alright, here you go peace freaks" and "...would we ever come up with
a thing like retard bush's war" during the wheel.
THIS SHOW IS THE FABULOUS ESSENCE OF PURE SOLO TODD---ALREADY A CLASSIC!!!!!!!!
big thanks to marc and tony for getting me this so quick. |

BLACK AND WHITE. I SAW THE LIGHT. INFLUENZA. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?.
I WANT YOU. THE WHEEL. LOVE IN ACTION. ONE WORLD. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.
Note: this show sold out very early - a great way to end the
first leg of this fine solo tour! todd's vocals are on par with the night
prior - there were more instrument problems but not to the distraction
point...very small place (size and layout approx 250 folks). to start todd
had an odd day as he explains about leaving clothes behind and forgetting
picks. strings break so he picks up royston langston's (opener and liv's
husband) guitar. tie you down is superb from all perspectives...good execution
on viking...compassion, like the night prior, is dangling on a star...the
"dying on your bed of pain" when whispered as only he can bring the dynamics
down and is amazing. there's a funny bit during the uke story where a lady
belts out a laugh. strange thing about these shows is the absence of electric
guitars lead to distortion on acoustic guitar. black and white makes a
rare solo appearance. our lovely vocal champ flattens the competition with
the bossa set...the greatness of todd shows through in the improvisational
sections he is inventing stretching but not going too far overboard to
strain the voice - the high end is clearer. the wheel comes again tonite
in a spot which is a bit earlier than usual...alters the "like if children
were left to their own devices" part to update accordingly again....and
the end, the slow down "how much i loved you....." is the right touch for
sure. big thanks to tony for getting me this so quick. |

CD TWO: WILLIAM TELL RIFF. LOVE IN ACTION (ABORTED). I SAW THE LIGHT.
INFLUENZA. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?. I WANT YOU. ONE WORLD. HELLO IT'S
ME. THE WHEEL. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.
Note: nice recording of the charlotte show. kinda weird show
- sounded like tr spoke of it as a punk club. anyhow- string breaks on
song 1 - a sign of things to come - tr pays someone a fosters to fix it
from the audience. the wind blowing on him at the piano bench was a hassle...plays
iwhmad...todd says a number of times during the show that in his advanced
age- what he thinks he hears from the audience is probably much more intertesting
that what they're talking about. todd says he may one day act on it and
get in real trouble...anyhow - the show gets some steam but is frequently
peppered with tr commentary about lotsa stuff. verses get switched in demons,
he mentions sold out tonite as an investment in the future - he may just
play there 5 straight nights. yes he does play iwhmad twice then they remind
him of it...ive just seen is spot on....lia aborts after tequipment problems,
like it did in annapolis. again todd darts in and out of the mp3 tunes
great improvs at the end...HIM is messy a bit but he recovers and finishes
strong after a few flubs to a nice reaction from crowd. show was a bit
more like the last few years but still the singing was clear and strong...great
job. |

LOVE AWAY. I SAW THE LIGHT. INFLUENZA. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?. I WANT
YOU.
CD TWO: LYSISTRATA. THE WHEEL. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. ONE WORLD.
Note: sonicly superior job...show in which todd did seemed to
have an extra thumb or two (one of" those" piano nites) but sang super
in line with the great vocals heard in dc area. some catcalls burst thru
the sound but not too bad..again, as on the 7th, his string breaks on the
opener and he aborts and goes straight to the piano where it starts out
pretty well. speaks of the water concern at each venue and did drink what
he called "syphliss water" (mispoken name). todd finally answers the catcalls
for skynyrd with a few unaccompanied verses of free bird. hammer is one
of the best heard on this tour - a real fierce pace. the flubs start at
the end of too far gone aren't bad at all but a real train wreck happens
in hello it's me which drifts for awhile at the end into an atonal affair
but todd has fun with it. lotcm and cliche really benefit from being played
later in the set when his voice is warmed up. todd speaks of playing IWHMAD
twice the night before, so i guess that's why it was missing this nite.
a dream goes on is even somewhat marred and - that's probably why he took
the unusual step of playing one world AFTER a dream.. all in all, very
enjoyable - rowdy crowd, kinda sub-par keyboard nite. |

like this is quite a few tours-. groce's intro was spliced onto lcm (the
version here is the 2nd take-first was unusable due to tech probs). however,
the bcast sounds seamless. taxman is a sing along. todd sings a verse as
the bcast fades...it is absolutely great to have one from this state-honoring

there is a bit of yap but the crowd seems never to stop..todd does the
(becoming rarer) hawking instead of kindness-the piano flubs are less than
average..lunatic is a bit rough (he says its performance number 2) but
its cool to hear it back to back with beloved...thanks to ml for another
foray into motown..nice to hear the local reaction to two marvin songs......good
performance-voice is a bit rough at edges but nowhere near as what would

Note: this set is really a show that i wished i had seen. it
sounds coffeehouse-size...tiny. the recording benefits from super equipment
and positioning not far from a speaker. it's the talkhouse, however, and
there us a bit of yap in many places early. it is not a problem because
the recording is so strong and it gets better as the show goes on. some
great moments here- hello it's me has a playful improv'd begin off the
bass riff. todd's voice is a bit rough at the start but again, the amazing
thing is that it gets better as the show goesso by mid-show, he's in tip
top form. infidel is exceptional (many good ones-this one may be the best).
the second cd sounds superb. wheel-what's going on also is great. also
todd talks about a song yet to be written about the current political scene.

16 bar diddy about tourists coming to hawaii, brak's vacation from spaceghost's
surf and turf...but the rest is very strong..there is some very slight
yap but no big deal. the piano is strong and a very funny line is delivered
during born to synth..."the red polygons only desire is to get to the blue
triangle..you know what im saying"...tr laughs aloud. it just shows he
was loose and on top of his game here. todd remarks about missing john
entwhistle who played there with him in abbey road, this time he's solo...very
enjoyable show for a supportive LI/NY crowd. thanks tst. |

Note: what a surprise..since there were only three shows. sound
is excellent, very small cheers and yap at points but nice recording on
balance. as for the show, it is not as tight as the first 2 go arounds
(but it is nowhere near as sloppy as some would have imagined). todd is
the number one featured star in this show for sure and this has a lot of
spirit. joey molland really did a superb job on his tunes and it is wonderful
to hear todd playing slide on the badfinger tunes. denny laine sang with
unexpected inprovisational flair-it worked most of the time and his choice
of tunes is unexpectedly unique. instrumentally it was a bit sloppy on
those tunes but it sure is nice to hear todd and joey trade off on golden
slumbers verses. there are a few digital small skips on the opener and
closer but not enough to cause concern. it's very nice to hear open my
eyes with this crew of ALL-STARS. you can feel this lineup would be a killer
if they had time to really get it in the groove. i really wish these guys
would have been in a long running thing but who knows what the future holds???
this really was an enjoyable show to listen for front to end. huge thanks

ceilings so it is not the best recording but the performance especially
the vocals by todd make this show the shit...as i understand it, this was
as close to perfect as they've gotten it (so far)...it will get better.
the crowd went nuts ala 79-large theater full house...lot of chances of
tr playing improv live guitar where he used to do stock lines...key sounds
and lines fuller than before - john does a magnificent job of hybriding
the parts. great leads on outchorus of unloved...jessie outstanding again,
as always, on his leads. same set omissions as the 'burgh (temp. sanity,
love science, train, and wwe) but the real deal is that this is very enjoyable
to listen to despite the high ceilings. todd was in the groove and the
love flowed back...he shouted as he came back on the last time "we came

Note:coming on the heels of the truimphant red bank show-comes
this one off masterpiece recording by ms k....sound is crystal clear in
this small 100 bucks a ticket venue connected to the ny publice theater
and dedicated to joe papp (hence joe's)..when sara got there she told me
there were signs stating that a dvd was being filmed..pretty awesome show..many
members of the '89 uai cast returned but additions to the cast were joe
jackson and mr kasim sulton, who evidently pulled an eleventh hour miracle
when another member called in ill..tough stuff to learn in hours but he
did marvelously..todd participated in an ongoing narration of what was
going on on each piece. sound of instruments was recorded and the singers
used lyric and lead sheets ...what you get out of this recording is that
these are fucking great songs..if i have to be alone, maybe im better off.and
you know the rest....this is an absolutely beautiful essential document
to the core..and even something like this project which has probably faded
in your memory shows you the depth of this man's great work..same like
liars and the technology used on the new tour..hes always giving 110% singing
as hard as he can..trying to reach the golden ring...the conviction..you
see it all here in the midst of a rock tour..our hero can turn around and
give a show like this without batting and eye..this is a great nite offered
in honor of these great songs. possible dvd release so, at this time, this
is NOT for trade. ...ESSENTIAL historical piece. |

Note: another super fine recording by mr b...the show is reallys
kaz's nite..fade down on f christ very machine-like...isp hot as usual..
unloved shows foamy is still cutting out..weeps is also very decent..the
harmony lines from kaz really begin to fill out god said...great vocal
on liar..onions (from the dark to the light..quips todd)..tonite the organ
takes the first solo..jesse in clapton mode...to rev PP..some vocal blockage
slightly on soul bro and sweet...sweet ends slighly premature..syth is
a delight..esp john f's..didnt need the 2x time part...after this kaz's
bass takes the prize..great playing on past, --todd calls the demomstration
in syth..led zep meets sisters of mercy meets the horace silver quartet..(SOM?)...feel
it is slightly faster..floating... slide feel...but at end you can hear
todd confess with the band--i fucked it up with my guitar..tonite he just
cant find the key on gtr...rest was usual....john added some ambience to
his cd here..great recording..decent but not best show. |

Note: my fave-sounding so far. masterful recording. r really
hit the sweet spot- this is nice-todd having fun-not in quite as perfect
voice as lancaster but close....band tight..really only mistakes made a
few notes todd on gtr...great version of born to synth..past sounds really
different in this show than others ..more gliding...i know im prejudice
cause i saw lancaster but this and lancaster are a toss up to me...peekskill
coming up next was also a mother..great recordings, band in great form..still
valuing space in te arrangements..worried of course that as familiarity
sets in, spaces fill up..so far theyve really peaked in the area of ensemble
playing and arrangments...you gotta have this one lancaster and peekskill
so far..my god what am i saying..but these recordings are so good especially
compared to my initial disaster in pgh....great one here...mr roys does
it again |

BORN TO SYNTHESIZE. FEEL IT. WANT OF A NAIL. HELLO ITS ME. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note: from tony rogers, "AS FOR THE RECORDING, VERY SATISFIED
AND I THINK MORE GREAT ONES WILL COME..A GREAT SOUND AT THIS VENUE..AS
FOR THE SHOW ITSELF: I was surprised to see such a lovely venue in Lancaster-most
importantly, acoustics were fine-almost opposite to the cavernous old Basie
place in Red Bank a week before. I also am pleased to report that Todd
had the best vocal night I can remember since going to see him. It was
all 100% there and no rag at all which is surprising, given his earlier
problems and the number of shows he?s done. What got better in the week?
Balance and mix were clearer-some low end rumble avoided consistently-even
through Mammon? The band is simply better now because Ferenzik has gotten
aggressive with his playing, -he?s louder, he?s covering more parts (and
some that he?d been playing can now be heard)..One bummer about the night
was that Foamy bit the dust..It failed Todd as early as B Grass and Jesse
played the out-chorus lead?To get real picky..Todds vocals could come up
on mammon-but the balance (which had been good but sometimes lopsided)
really came together on the NH tunes.. Nice to hear Love Science and a
nice combo version of a complex tune..nailed this night?Sweet and Past
were both loved-Todd rode a vocal glider over, above, in out-taking you
on the full ride tonight..im telling myself theres been better ive seen
but I cant think of it..superb night vocally..proves he is the best singer
in the world and he was this night no matter who else was trying to match
him?.past..what a great tune for him live in the great ballad tradition
of last ride, verb to love, only human?.had been missing for quite awhile?.born
to synth is the ultimate band showcase-some are bored with the song but
it has evolved so nicely..so much to catch-todds nightly word on the end
of the tune/(A(aim)-mish? was the word)..jesse?s solo is breataking blues
into jazz into outer space-ending with a siren..ferenzik goes into hos
Bill Evans block building floating upward..Prarie shifts into full bebop
doubletime..kaz plays a throbbing bass-inserting alternate root notes,
changing the chord structure, creating an unexpected little bursts of harmony
which move against the upward Ferezik pattern..Kaz then takes us into Holger
Czukay style melodic but spacy solo..tying it off with the 7 rays riff?todd
calls it a musical tantrum..and then during the jetson intros-they even
have little vignettes worked out for each member?this is as Zappaesque
as youll see anywhere now in modern music.. God, do we need him now?For
me, the peak is always Feel It and tonight with his pipes gleaming..it
was unreal?..same with Nail?.No, Red Bank response it was not, but hey
that?s Aimish folk rather than Jersey crazies..crowd still loved it?on
HIM, the facial expressions now include a ?wink wink? on ?spend the night..?
line? The tapes have to be good- 5 tapers there from the east coast..come
on you southern dudes..get it together and do the shows down there please..great
show great friends great voice great venue" |

Note: from tony, "what can i say except wow..another fine fine
recording of the peak at peakskill..another great vocal performance..band
is filling up the space as i say...still there are some errant gtr notes
of tr, but aside from those mistakes, band is rolling..the litmus test
of all the recordings so far is mammon and this one rocks-there is a moment
or 2 of vol adjustment, but no big deal...b grass-great todd solo on gtr-best
ive heard so far..btw-the gtr on feel it now doesnt even call for the riff-straight
into solo land-all improv...yeah!!..isp (as usual) sets the stage on fire
thanks mostly to praries stonesish power drumming..like the father murphy
(new england slant) thing in synth wake up scene.....that tune is just
better and better..getting out there increasingly on johns solo--this one
prarie sets up a ravishing rhumba that ferenzik just destroys with blocks
of his dukeystick/bill evans chord trip-really cooking it up well....and
jesse?? what can you say?? id take him against almost everyone going today...id
like to see a duel between he and pat metheny- would be interesting...another

as with the awdar that sara did that also adding, the show was made to
be short so that the gambling could be interrupted the shortest time..i
guess that comes with the bucks..there is some distortion in a veryu few
places but what makes this so cool is the sound..vocs are right out front.-songs
are rushed but end up cool..most noticably is feel it..ends up LESS than
half of the time it usually clocks in at... still this is a nice and interesting
clearly alternate mix from what weve heard thus far..another nice addition" |

Note: from tony r, "before i begin my long review of this show-let
me tell you what you need to know- yes this is nyc-they did play wwe and
mr b hit the sweet spot big time on thsi recording..an awesome recording
especially considering its nyc..yes there is some yip yap..as you know,
in ny, people come out to shows to talk through them because usually theres
a reason aside from the art to be there...its cool, somebody we know likes
him, whatever..mr b and others on the review list made it clear there were
many industry types there that nite including liv rundgren, i mean tyler..and
her hubby many people have requested this show..i really do listen to all
of them and i must say for recording at this point-this ones way up there-i
hear lots of clarity and parts i didnt even know were there (most all keys)..great
stereo and occassional panning effect...ill now point out the second part
and that this again is a super show but in my opinion, not the best performance
but still you must own this for the flawless sound and still damned near
perfect show..if you only want one from this tour..it would be hard at
this stage to decide against this..anyhow...vibe sets in during b grass..you
know it dawned on me that todd has always kept his ticket prices relatively
low..best buy in the biz (10% of stink or the iggles).mammon/f christ really
gets your attention here...great great sound..key lines i couldnt hear
from the overwhelming bass on all others..great organ patch, i mean model
on this tune..by the time of f christ, you realize this is a different
level than most all the recordings weve heard (w.except r roys' lisner)...ISP
(todd says as an intro:"..in case it may have escaped you at this point,
we're a fucking rock and roll band"...jewel as usual..heres the deal on
unloved: about 8 beats and then stopped...why?? unless im mistaken, havent
played it since..why?? why no t sanity, train???? Weeps- the solos are
boss but foamy is still cutting out on the signal, so it makes it kinda
like an effect in places...end is spectacular..todd ripping off some chancey
licks and nailing em...he still at times has had the tendency this tour
to play the right lick but start them on the wrong fret (often by 1 fret-creating
major dissonance)...tonite still a couple here though...the beginning of
god said has an interesting occurrence..it appears either john forgot the
sequence or improvised on it...todd evidently thought the latter b/c if
you listen closely before todd comes in he says (sarcastically low vol)
"excuse me"...like mr b said there was some slight yap here but by the
end "save mes" it was quiet...liar-the fidelity of this recording takes
you off guard...great great vocal job on this one...infidel dedicated to
the nader voters of 2000 election and lunatic fringe uneventful..all in
all the first half was a very good performance-2nd half would be better
still...green onions jesse's slide style leads into a jeff beckish style
into john f (nice cool jazz style solo)..to pp and then they start the
birthday riff (for prarie)..back into GO..SB-smooth as jelly-sweet is majestic
great soulful performance with crowd participation makes this the best
version so far..past..wonder what liv thought about this one??..another
very heartfelt version and another top of the heap..its quite clear that
todds not paying much mind to the crowd -instead hes singing and negotiating
with all of the ghosts he's left here in the greatest city in the world
and the one where he lived and rose to stardom and operated secret sound..ahhh..some
of those ghosts should have been smart enough to be there..damn it dont
anyone say i didnt say this was the one to be at..we tried to tell em all
and weve been proven right..i dont ever recall so many great shows especially
vocally great night after night like this one..hes really showing everyone
how to sing.......love science is in this nite..and this version ("we're
feeling so cocky that were gonna play something that we hardly know")...hate
to say it but the band knows it, its todd that cant keep the word straight..this
nite hes happy with the groove but the correct words arent close to the
right order (sticky bud??).fun but..better versions at dc and lancaster....still
works out nice to hear it..why no t sanity..ok ill shut up about it.........synth-
jesse plays an up jazz style solo..into same squealy les paul model--best
yet ending... again with whistle.siren thing whammy freak out...then john
plays his solo in a very different style than that before..little waterfalls
(no, not alicia keys or liberace-smaller ones than that) at end of each
statement...into finally the bop thing..drums of pp plays against it until
a sample "..???....africa??"..hits then into kaz 7rays lick is played...at
the "you were born" trade trade licks part-tr says "you were born. break
your dick, break your stick"..no idea..inside joke???...father murphy parts
is in jesse adds nice gtr part to john f's cartoony sleep riff....feel
it again is where its at for the head..we come to hear the man sing right??
i do..spectacular..believe it or not, some people yap in parts here....worth
it alone for me....nail is very good tonite...HIM-nice space maintained
JOV-everyone in the house singing (sounds to me like another red bank-a
call to arms)..and rising out from the embers of JOV comes the TR rhythm
WWE.only show recently.cautiously played almost like sly stone..into a
frenzy...screaming worldwide (at the city that is the melting pot)..the
energy got seriously up and moving around the room..you can feel it..you
know in lancaster 2000 the same thing happened during wwe..you could hear
a low end that wasnt being played..it was spooky and supernatural at the
same time..this nite, trs gtr was raunching out on the riff beating the
strings till they're slightly out of tune - sleazy rocker i love- i still
picture him with that cheap 150 dollar fender mustang in 79 just whammying
the hell out of it on "anyway anyhow anywhere"...the only thing i can say
is whats there on the cds..at the end..someone exclaims "holy shit"..amen
brother amen..thank you brother john babcock..i know ive said it before
but once again-this is a real nice recording. marc noted a small glitch
in that on cd 2, love science starts then it goes back to the end of past
and then presents ls in entirety in seq w/ rest of show..no big deal-in
sum, beg of track 1 cd 2 needs removed if it bothers you..." |

CD TWO: GREEN ONIONS. SOUL BROTHER. SWEET. PAST. BORN TO SYNTHESIZE.
FEEL IT. WANT OF A NAIL. HELLO IT'S ME. JUST ONE VICTORY
Note: from tony r: "one thing about this homecoming show is
that the venue is notorius to record in due to the deep stage and high
ceilings..kinda like red bank but worse..that being said, this recording
is pretty amazing to get a sound this good. it has problems inherent in
the venue (and those we've encountered with this new sound system)..the
2nd set sounds better than set 1 and thats the same every night..the second
set doesnt have truth, mammon and liar in it either....as for the show,
todds voice not quite up to the high standards acheived other places but
not ragged by any means...todd mentioned that rock was only one of the
genres he was in and said he would not serve if elected to the r and r
hall of fame....show really kicks into the groove halfway thru fascist
christ-before it the groove was not as solid...jf changes the top riff
on ISP-does a variation....weeps is decent but the band sounds uninterested...god
said is also surprisingly distracted but the feel is odd..liar is one tune
that was made a mess by phasing, high ceilings here... after the solo bit
where the nader thing was pronounced....pp really tears into GO..groove
happenin...soul brother-breakdown section really sounds good with this
venue (natural echo)..sweet locks in the groove and the show takes off......past
is the peak of this show..equisite version..still some sss sounds cut thru
but this is where theres lots of past for todd, so maybe thats why the
emphasis..synth...jessie blows doors soulful jazz twinge..jf does a ragtime
style to start his section..it is a funny different solo than hes done
-very riff oriented-almost like a gtr player..into a patchy pad type sound
that borders on experimental classical music straight into the 2x section..this
is my fave solo of jfs that ive heard on this tour so far...kaz goes then
into a flailing style solo into singring riffing into 7 rays..tonite jf
does the echoing you were born w/ tr, not jesse.........feel it is where
the backbeat cracks in hard..groove is a bit strange due to bass sound,
etc..then PP completely blows the ending by ending it even before todd's
touched the gtr....todd does extra long solo to try to cover but the thing
is partly out and they rush out of it to NAIL- well the groove here is
very odd and its feels like they were rattled by it..cause the groove really
doesnt happen here at all..very rushed..todd is a bit flat at spots during
the encores..jov the band tries the high angelic harmonies but ends up
backing off of them..show was nice, nice homecoming, great job to record
this well at the tower....show in my opinion was definitely inferior performance
wise to many others this tour but if you were there or gotta have em all-this
is a fine momento. thanks from the bottom to both mr b for doing his everyday
miracles and marco for getting it to me...." |

Note: from tony r, "nice show from mr kelly -small venue, recording
very good ..some but not over yap...vol fluct (down) on b grass, then steady...mammon
aborted by prairie and possibly something not working, so skipped the sacrilege
duo into ISP..then fixed, the 2 are nice..f christ almost sounding like
a rock song-not so much groove oriented on this night -many prairie inventive
fills in that tune particularly this nite...tr brings out a special guest
guitar gibson sg? -please read at the tr on tour about this.....freshly
painted in fool-like artwork...has a great tone and i like the sound on
weeps..perfect since e clapton used it on the original, am i correct??...jesse's
solo on liar is verociuos and noisy..Green Onions has a roadhouse fell
tonight..jessie dressing in srv clothes then PP has his for short solo
then when jesse tries to trade 4s w/ him- too much going on to happen..instead
john f recognizes what hes doing and alomst gets into a todd.roger thing
for a short while..agian no t sanity (major bummer-if you havent seen him
call for it 1st set-prob lost forever), unloved children (recently fading
away), train (did he ever?), wwe (nyc only recently), or love science (dc,
lancaster, others) tonite....second set-nice pair of ballads, then syth
finds JG wearing Joes Pass' coat mellow tone then with PP shifiting rhytyms
ala vinnie colauita underneath...ends in a whistle siren crash and then
the tune is dead momentarily...jf revives in a strident manner-sounding
altogether a different player up until his chord trip starts that ends
his solo..super solo...the sleep part doesnt take place for some reason,
todd asks whatver happened to vaudeville and then improvs some more..then
ends..feel it is feeling more like NH-jesse playing so many different lines
at the head to fill it...superb vocally again...nail ragged somewhat..jov
solo at end is best yet...........thanks patrick." |

sick of hearing it but i dont think weve ever had such a great run of shows..trs
gtr mistakes are now vanished...band is confident and the stuff actually
swings in places...recording is very and takes the low end off..is this
the best show of the tour? maybe performance wise..there is a real strange
proclivity for prarie to play drum fills this nice and its clear hes bored
with the super slow and straight 4/4 of past..the feel has evolved...i
like god said on this and liar as well as any show hes done..although its
short-the first set is super-voice top shelf, not perfect, but ill take
it every night of the week.....there is a problem with the bass on HIM
encore that kills the moe at the end but aside from their sorta brush thru
the verses of synth..solos are good, but not the best synth weve heard..also
green onions has some problems in that the changes were scattered for some
reason-seems like they were distracted, but as i said past is different
feeling on this more recent recording and as the confidence builds..space
is filled..prairies playing about 2-3x as many fills as he did in pittsburgh
when i saw em first and that coupled with ferenik's expanded role since
then..makes for an enjoyable time of interesting interplay between the
players...great job mike-wish i woulda gone-i like this one a lot..man

Note: from tony, "the first of two back to back nights of good
fortune for us all thru ms sara k..this time for a big change (she is a
purist) to deal with the big bad bass monster we've all regretfully had
to deal with concerning this round direct "modelly" sound..wonderful job
done here and nashville (i feel a better group show)-the recordings are
very good position-wise and its a big treat to hear them at this juncture..way
familiar with the material..theres now an operatic opening-lord of the
rings or something pompous like that with full boys choir and orchestra
in dramatic unison..personally i think its funny but im not sure thats
how it was intended...the vocals are great..a bit distorted at beg..sound
shapes better with grass..todds voice soars over the chugging backbeat..no
copd tonite folks....mammon sounds now like a rock song and has lost all
of the humanoid/robot/mechanized feel on the original..f christ swings
big time..gtr probs surface but the end solo of christ is attacked in a
way not heard before-far more aggression from todd on gtr...the breakdown
on f crist is now a sensual affair with almost litlle scatting going down..playing
in and out of the downbeat..lengthy..isp has the emphasis largely on the
riff at the head and no audible chords for verse 1 but was prob the mix..weeps
is less smooth-i think they have trouble at this point pumping emotion
into it since its a cover after all and one hes done for a few years/tours
in awdar..definitey more bombastic than before and maybe like a modern
day very 1st utopia would have played it ...you know this is similiar in
a few ways to that first tour...a longer pause at the beg of god said..liar
provides extra screaming tonite from todd at end..beloved very plain..listen
to your 03s again..its almost always too fast despite the momentary break
after liars..GO-starts in higher gear than normal...organ solo is nice
playing accents games with PP--who has total control of the band by this
point...sb is cool as ice-it took awhile to get it to this feel and i think
most musicians know its the simple ones that can take longer to get the
feel right..real nice groove tonite..sweet is total "hot fun in the summertime"
6/8 groove tonite PP stays on tip top of the beat..less machine like now
as well-accents sprinkled thru in jazz like manner by pp and kaz..past.cautious
tonite, almost sneaky..delicate..pp never hits the snare-all rims tonite..this
shows how far the vocals have come...unique version..slip away part is
magic....synth-very loose from the start hard to decribe the sound that
is trying to happpen here tonite..odd angular stuff-kind of sinister slant
from mr g..screaming..definitely playing by himself and not so much interplay
and thats the prob with this tonite...jf- t monk style for a very short
while and goes into 2x very early..continues to battle against the tide
ala zawinul used to do in weather report...complex but diffuse..kaz solo...todd
does get into the lyrics of who do you love?...feel it little too fast/less
drama...less tension-for me thats not good...vocs are great though..but
again a failure at the lead part..nail sounds like theyre tired of playing
it..sloppy..then out come the elvis masks for JOV and as they leave the
stage jesse playes the opening chord to jailhouse rock (see if you can
find it)..a great recording and a show full of great playing...this is
the nite where they played well individually well..the communication or
band emsemble playing was sloppy at places but this would gel as well in
nashville..thanks sara...all of these shows are good-another winner but
slightly behind nashville because of the performance-recordings are both
excellent..thanks again to ms k" |

FASCIST CHRIST. I HATE MY FRICKIN ISP. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. GOD
SAID . LIAR. BELOVED INFIDEL. LUNATIC FRINGE.
CD TWO: GREEN ONIONS (CUTS IN AT VERY BEG). SOUL BROTHER. SWEET. PAST.
BRN TO SYNTHESIZE. FEEL IT. WANT OF A NAIL. HELLO ITS ME. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note: from tony, "itold you guys about this one before i had
the final verison and sara has done it again. this one i tell you i think
slightly edges out charlotte for the best performance that ive heard-but
its my opinion anyway..there is no doubt that it is better than the night
before and memphis was hot as hell..great show, great voice, great interplay
and a return of intrumental restraint just enough to balance the mastery
acheived from playing a lotta dates. the mechainization is also leaving
truth whne the band comes in..sounding more human each time its played..bassy
b grass rolls along..mammon into f christ is wicked..pp is powerful whammo
drumming just accents todds extended lead gtr break..tr wailing away into
uncharted territory-kaz and pp shifting the beats underneath-makes this
aas exciting of a passage as heard on the tour..isp turns into a glider..weeps
again is the hardest to get feeling behind at this point but the end solo
is again extended beating the audience into emotional submission....god
said contains a strange drum hit in.beg but brings back a lot of restraint
to the mix. nice to do. at the end of a numbing liar the crowd has the
reaction of being in a coma..i dont get it...the solo tunes are accordingly
more restrained than usual which again is welcome...infidel stops for a
spell..GO- hendrix mood for jesse this night and in an unprecendented move
JG and JF begin to trade 4s..jf employs a jazzy then boogie woogie style..this
is the best ensemble version of GO..SB-tr says to band that they must be
in some kind of hurry..they were a bit fast but not so much to note it..todd
then sings in a way to show hes not pleased with the pace by (as he has
done in the past) ignoring the rhythym with his phrasing..cutting his own
path..the mix of sweet is nice-low keys at the start give it a more organic
feel..great vocal delivery...its all there tonite..past again is very delicate..very
straight, very nice..emphasis on BEEN living in then past this night. synh-kind
of floats up into play//PP and JG tonite are into the polyryhthmic interplay
that fz untilized with vince colauita on drums..bombastic at times but
going full time..jf doing a plucking/pedal tone thing jf on the big jazz
tip tonite..kaz choedal thing ends with some beautiful chords very brian
wilson-like...tr really tries to throw jesse tonite with the echo bit..with
fades and bends...feel it is sparse and nice-ace version tonite..strange
angular lines on gtr..as bad and sloppy as nail was in memphis-its is rededicated
in nashville...very accurate-best...JOV ends majestically with an extended
solo ..magnif..its amazing that our man is doing probably his best night
to night performances of his career and hes in his mid 50s............thank
you sara...its a classic performance/recording for sure folks..." |

JONATHAN BABCOCK (DPA 4061) |
60:33/78:10 |
| Track List: CD ONE: AMBIENCE. TRUTH. BUFFALO GRASS.
MAMMON. FASCIST CHRIST. I HATE MY FRICKIN ISP. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS.
GOD SAID. LIAR. BELOVED INFIDEL.
CD TWO: GREEN ONIONS. SOUL BROTHER. FLAW. SWEET. PAST. BORN TO SYNTHESIZE.
FEEL IT. WANT OF A NAIL. HELLO IT'S ME. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note: from tony r, "show #4 of 5 new ones from mr babcock and
this may be the best one of the batch. great sounding venue, recording
super again ..and the inclusion of flaw make this great..tr always saves
a great (and sometimes the best) show for the penultimate postion...to
me, these two stand even a little above the fla shows because largely of
the gravity of the last 2 shows of this leg..which, in sum, to me has been
the best tour ever..i dont know what the hell richard lester's saying that
todds known as "a billy joel type in the us" but that british fans know
of his past accomplishments prog rock wise....what a pompous load of bullshit..everyone
reading this has probably been through many many different todd tours/
scenes, whatever..and we've seen all the shows..what is tyalking about?
(ref..july mojo)..anyway-i listened to the old 95 shows recently and this
band now is so much more rehearsed, better singers, more defined parts..lets
face it..a lot of the I tour was balls to the wall power rock-which is
cool but i feel this tour displays musicianship and todds musical trip
as well as any tour hes done..to me at this point its hard to say its not
the best ever..everyone has their favorites but i loved it-wish there were
different tunes added to the mix but im very happy and wish i could have
made more-these cds let us all be there and thats the point of this..anyhow-this
is a great great show and my comments are: b grass is very weird..somethings
strange w. bass again,,gtr screams in solo (tr very aggressive)..mammon
very raved up..loss of percision.. subtle accents shifting now in the tune.
f christ not as much groove this night..a lot going on ...solo section
the band locks it in....isp is actually suspended while the riff is repeated
by the band to fix the bass..tr mentions randy getting drafted by royals....todd
then says this has been the best gig yet..funny cause it is kinda a turning
point...gtr more adventure than usual on weeps....god said-very pajama
silky belly singing..liar a sonic assualt now that the rumble's gone from
the bass...sb nice caution shown..sensitive jazz vibe..sounds better than
ever..now rushing the start of lines to glide over the top of the verses..flaw
of course is an attraction but here the band is still fairly slow with
it..i dont know..kinda dont like that whole "motherfucker" crutch..you
know.."fuck you jesse"...its ok..tune reminds of cameo on todds album version.
sweet is anice pace.flowing vocs continue-hes on his game this nite...top
level-feel the testimony...past-nice and slow..crowd gives him due-almost
perfect version though for some reason it ends a bit early....sytnth- all
the stops begint this night and from here on out-your hair stands up...great
part which i wont like i usually do..go overboard.anyway-lets say the call
and response section now has the whole of the band in the end of it and
is very zappaesqe..very special version-band at its peak of playing sensitive
to each other...very slow feel it..i do like feel it better in albany but
the lead and the way this one builds is odd cause pp plays very static..same
with nail..pp very straight drumming after synth..and above all he nails
the solo end on JOV which makes this THE version...magical response. magic
night..magic tour..thanks for providing it to us all, mr b..." |

LADY MADONNA. COME AND GET IT. BABY BLUE. DAY AFTER DAY. NO MATTER WHAT.
GO NOW. LIVE AND LET DIE. BAND ON THE RUN. OPEN MY EYES. HELLO IT'S ME.
RAIN. SAILING. ARTHUR'S THEME. RIDE LIKE THE WIND.
CD TWO: EYE IN THE SKY. MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER. GAMES PEOPLE PLAY.
TICKET TO RIDE. GOLDEN SLUMBERS/CARRY THAT WEIGHT/THE END. BIRTHDAY. HEY
JUDE.
Note: from tony, "very happy to have sara cover this for us
so that we can hear it. recording is nice-you can hear it all clearly here..but
the bummer is that the background vocals all nite long are not arranged
at all and are frequently out of tune...day tripper is atrociuos to say
the least..todd is the star of the show and is the only one worth seeing
here in my opinion..i think these are the only 2 shows all year for this
proposition that has seen better days..particularly, denny laine appears
to have been a basehead in the year between the last time out..his voice
is gone this time out..molland is so-so and cris cross is criss cross.....glad
farner's gone..and i really wish todd would bow out of this gracefully..he's
got too much going for him on the solo scene now..its not the point where
hes gonna get any new fans out of this and we all know he's being loyal
to AP who always asked him, so you cant fault him here..this must really
seem silly to todd at this point..the few things that i noticed that were
neat were the "back on the streetish" version of if you want it....no matter
what is actually performed about the best this night..golden slumbers-the
end solo section has changed now so it is inaccurate arrangement- wise
to the AR version...hey jude has a mystery melody for awhile....you know
i just dont like the idea of paying big bucks to a band that just gets
together and jams on beatles tunes and with the level of arrangment that
todd has established--thats about it...i know that theres a core band that
tries to do their best but this idea is gone npw and i hope AP can do w/o
the weekend of money and give this the burial it should have had a year
ago....i will say the sound quality is key...another fine fine job by sara
k..our roving reporter--hey this may be the last ever awdar show..who knows??" |

Track List: TRUTH. BUFFALO GRASS. MAMMON. FASCIST
CHRIST. I HATE MY FRICKIN ISP. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. TEMPORARY
SANITY. GOD SAID. LIAR. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note: the first overseas show i received...many thanks to rene.
here's his review of this abbreviated version of this amazing tour:
"Todd at Bospop Weert Holland 07/10/04 by René ‚osman
7/14/2004
Ten long years it took before Todd came back for a visit to the Lowlands.
It was a firsttime experience for me watching and listening to Todd with
a band backing him up and the power and energy they exposed were totally
amazing! Due to festival scheduling the concert only lasted one hour and
Todd must have thought Hey, this Bospop thing has an accent on rock bands,
so we'll play the heavier stuff. And so they did: truth, buffalo grass,
mammon, fascist christ, frickin isp, while my guitar gently weeps, temporary
sanity, god said, liar & worldwide epiphany passed the hour in a almost
continuous storm of rock music, overwhelming the public with what i think
was the best set list he could have made for this happening. Of course
i would have loved to hear a mellow one like past or even an oldie, but
to me this was no reason for any disappointment at all. The sound was very
loud but very clear, the band surely put something down the fans will not
easily forget and most of all Todd's voice was in a tremendously good shape!
Todd's alive and kicking and i feel good.

TRUTH. BUFFALO GRASS. MAMMON. FASCIST CHRIST. I HATE MY FRICKIN' ISP. WHILE
MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. GOD SAID. LIAR. BELOVED INFIDEL. LUNATIC FRINGE.
CD TWO: GREEN ONIONS. SOUL BROTHER. FLAW. SWEET. PAST. LOVE SCIENCE.
BORN TO SYNTHESIZE. FEEL IT. WANT OF A NAIL. HELLO IT'S ME. JUST ONE VICTORY
Note: from tony r, "i guess with the history of the man eating
peacock suit and countless otheres i can name, one could argue that todd
has always sabotaged himself in big or high pressure gigs..not this time..altough
the british press essentially cried for the hits in an eloquent fashion..puke....(like
a midwestern hick here in the us), but put it in terms that also made us
sound unrefined ala uncut ---dont get me started----......etc..bs, the
real fans in the uk know better...this was an excellent erformance and
i wish that this recording was better...there are some cut outs that happen
throughout this and it does affect what would otherwise be a decent but
not great recording..the hall was old and that ertainly had a great deal
to do with result..some sounds not bad at all but most of all the performance
was boss.gnerallt, tr seemed happy and treated it the same although the
neggieEGO (we hadnt missed it... believe me) seemed to slip back out a
bit with the towel dabb exercise and the razz of kaz about his bass solo...:
sound gets bigger on b grass and the solo is a wigg out!..confident f christ..almost
cocky (the "standard" said that) ISP is almost dance style-radically almost
disco hihat pattern..gtr freakout on (gall) weeps...plain gorgeous godsaid--monster..liar..super
effort here..todd notes his gratitude in seeing the place packed..hey us
fans, believe it or not they tried to get a beat going clapping during
infidel..same on LF..in complete honesty, i agree with the english rags
that GO was a poor choice to include in the set...kaz should have sung
a tune or two instead... SB not as jazzy as the end of us tour-nice inprov'd
vos at end by tr....sweet shows some slight voc strain at top..past very
nice ..love sc..tr ok on vocs, but sounds very 80s this night-esp jfs solo..synth...no
real fire or excitement nice colors by jesse..f ends up chasing pp- goes
into 2x too early and shudder, the bass solo returns.(empire city).plays
riffs from several including hammer singring and 7 rays..then todd razzes
him about the meatloaf tours and no bass solos then..extended solo on glorious
feel it and youre stunned by the lack of response from the crowd, they
obviously didnt get it..want of a nail revives the crowd some..they had
been waiting on HIM..a great deal of roar greets JOV..which cuts...thanks
to gary for getting me this..it certainly shows what a good effort he gave...to
me and all who will hear it-the hardcores-it was a triumph but again, im
not sure what they expected by reading the reviews..hopefully we'll get
a bit better version in time but i think the hall sound pretty much ensures
a difficult recording.....thank god for you the UK fans and Paul Lester-cant
stop now..we want the liars cd in the top 10 year lists in uncut and mojo.........." |
